This is a slick little piece if gear. It was too late to test it outside but I did hook it up to the SE and do some air testing. And I know..."air testing is useless", but from what I've seen so far, it's going to be pretty good. There was a small loss of depth in testing it in the house between the 10" Slimline coil and the 4.5 x 7 coil when set the same, which indoors was in Semi-auto with the coil in the middle of the room about chest high. But the small coil could be taken out of Semi-auto and run higher without going nuts like the bigger coils, so air-test depth loss was all but eliminated. We'll have to see how it does out in the field, but it seems that what Jerry (AKA Tinfoil) said about being able to "crank it up" with the small coil is true.

Should take about 3 weeks of steady hunting to cover a normal sized lawn:lol:Just kidding. Keep us updated on this one.
 
Work has been slow this winter so I'll have to hold off till construction picks up again...but it is next on my list...TT
 
Var 10,Threshold 3, Response normal and digital mode. Then switch over to auto and keep the sen the same. Let me know if you get any falsing when the coil (10" one) and the 4x7" scrape the wet sand. When I go over to Jacksonville Fl. to see the kids I hunt a couple of beaches over there that are black sand beaches with a lot of old ship wrecks and Nas Jax is just across the way from this beach. I got a lot of falsing with my SE when I accidentally scraped the wet sand so I just kept it about 1/2" off the sand and I dug some deep 10 to 14" stuff. My CZ70 was getting about the same depth but did not false when I hit the wet sand which it never has. The beach is so bad that none of my other detectors will even hunt there. My CZ 70 will not even ground balance so I just have to put it on 10 and hunt away. I would really appreciate it . I am going back over in Jan. and I will try again myself. Maybe it is just a bad beach. It runs great as long as you don't scrape the wet sand with the coil. No coil cover either. :D: :D: Thanks Jerry aka Tinfoil.
 
Yeah, it's small. But there are some sites...like the one I was hunting the other day where the dog tags and the Barber dime came from...that are FULL of iron and other garbage. There was literally iron in every other swing. It was a slow hunt with the SE as well as the CZ and you could do it but it would have defintitely better with this coil. There are times for a big coil and times for a small one. I've never cared for the little 5" hockey pucks too much but I like these elliptical coils. I had a little bigger version for my DFX when I had that and liked it pretty well too. Being a DD coil with it's narrow footprint it should be very nice for target separation. We'll see.

I took a nice pic of those tags and will be sending it to Gary to see if he's interested.
 
I have not used the Sunray 8" or any 8" on my Explorer. I have an 8" and a 10.5" for my CZ and I used to have a Sunray S-12 when I had my Sovereign Elite...I always loved that coil and I have been thinking of getting a Sunray X-8. Do you find that you can run it hotter than the Slimline 10"? Do you find it to pinpoint better or do anything else better?

A nice little coil and I can see the advantages in heavy iron sites, I look forward to your results with it.

Tinfoin, I get a bit of falsing on wet sand with my 15" WOT but auto sensitivity gets rid of it, The stock coil seems to work better, and I get almost no falsing in manual sensitivity set around 25.

The Platypus coil also works well on wet sand, however your sand may have a bit more mineral content than we have here.

With the big WOT set on auto the SE still goes very deep.

I am going over to Galveston Texas soon . There are a few real bad places that have bad black sand and I want to see if it does the same thing there. I don't consider 25 hot running. Now 28 to 32 yeah that is hot. The nice thing about the 4X7 is I can run it hot at 32 and get better depth then my Joey coil or my 7.5M/L coil. My Platypus coil is a piece of crap. It is the worst coil I ever spent money on other then The Pocket Probe. Now there is a real piece of junk. I have never hunted in ground so hot that my CZ70 won't even ground balance. That includes even the bad places in Galveston TX. However the "Golden Olde" old Norm, "God Rest His Soul" used to tell me he never G/B his CZ20. He just put it to 10 and hunted. My SE preformed great I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem if it falsed when you happened to scrape the wet salt sand.????? It would do it every time you scraped the wet salt sand on a swing as I did it on purpose a few times just to see. :shrug: Later Jerry aka Tinfoil
 
Heh...one kid, 3 dogs...but that carpet was replaced after the kid moved out and the dogs aren't allowed in that room. Which WAS a spare room until the kid "failed to launch", or more accurately, crashed and burned...and came back for a year+. But I told her if she trashed the new carpet I would launch her myself. :lol:

In other news, she's scheduled for launch again on the 25th...maybe this time she'll achieve and maintain orbit. :shrug:
 
That's a hot looking little coil Mike. I'll have to check in with you on that forum in the future to see how it does. Looks great for tight, trash areas, and gives more coverage than the 5". I like it.:clapping:
 
The little shooter coil I had on my MXT...It was my favorite coil & once I get hold of one myself I'm certain it will also be my favorite for the SE...There are a LOT of areas in the local parks where that coil looks like it would really be killer...also some areas I go to that have bigger rocks that the larger coil can't fit between... I'm expecting to see you posting some really good finds very shortly...TT

That is a nice coil.:cheers: From the looks of it, it seems that it will cover more ground than the standard 5" round excelerator coil.
I am anxious to here your assessment when you hit the field. I did find me a square glass like yours for my electrolysis machine. Happy Hunting Grounds,

I Use the X-8 99% of the time. It Runs 2-3 notches higher than the 10.5 in same conditions, pinpoints better, separates better, lighter to swing and overall alot more enjoyable to hunt with. I don't about if its as deep but Ive dug 8-10" targets and they still come in good. I guess I need to air test the 2 coils someday to see if any depth loss.

Cant wait to hear how well the 4.5 does for you

Yeah, parks...working around tree bases and stuff, trash separation...should be good. As for the "really good finds", I need to find a place that HAS some...I'll be looking. After 6 years of sucking everything in site out of the ground with a half dozen different killer machines AND all the other folks we have around here doing the same, it's getting tougher and tougher to find really productive sites. But press on I will.
