Found in a field in Greater London on Sunday. Was with my friend who was using my old Arado 120B. I suggested he detect near the entrance of a field since I thought there may be some relics there. He went somewhere else and that I went where I suggested

Evidence of blue enamelling on the outside (lucky I didn't wash it)

We have to declare things like this in the UK. Reported it yesterday and I will have to take it to the British Museum . They can learn alot from the inscription.I thought it was 1757 but I got this email from the Finds Liaison Officer

What a lovely ring! Thanks for emailing me about it. My initial thought was 17th century however I forwarded it on to the British Museum Treasure Department to confirm the date. They commented

Really cool find! Hope they let you keep it.

NICE - you guys have it made over there...
I was in Colchester, Essex in March and wish I could be there every day.
It a metal detectorists dream come true environment.

Cheers! I like the countryside, too. Did you find anything in Colchester?

If your not hunting in TTF in heavy iron I truly believe coins are missed, so WTG

Looks like pretty high karat gold. Cool find.

i have a decent export package coming back within the month...see the pictures...
a few hammies from a 1341 Edward III half groat to a 1647 Commonwealth silver penny...
plus a lot of very cool artifacts including a Celtic wode grinder (1BC-1AD) to Medieval seal matrix to silver cuff links to tons of greenie coppers, etc..
it's absolutely incredible what you chaps have sitting in your plowed fields...

Awesome find! The history of pieces like that are very interesting and add to the fun. Congratulations and thanks for sharing the story and photos.

Some lovely silver there!! You chose a very good area to detect. So much activity there!! What dates are on the hallmarks?

Here are some other writings on poesie rings:

Mine says (I think) You wilst follow. Different times but quite morbid?

I went back to the spot yesterday to hunt again. My stock coil is with Minelab getting repaired and I had to get the control box unit fixed a couple of months ago so beware of this

Anyone in with my deal was the 18x15 coil. I had found it very cumbersome so had only used it a couple of times. So,I am used toitnowand it is wonderful. None of my coins were that deep but I did find one small buckle type thing at least 15 inches down. And I thought it only found bigger things at greater depths. It also clings to signals and obviously has a very wide sweep range

Thanks for your kind words. So this is what I found within about 30 yards of the ring. Can't recognise the monarchs on these yet??

The trip organizer did everything for proper recording of finds and export and it's all done (as we say) "by the book"...

good. Always should be. I've started feeling very relaxed detecting. Even when I'm not finding anything
