this is the setup i use these days ,a canon 1Dmkiii with a sigma 150-600mm os sport lens ,i now use this as a walkabout rig using a black rapid shoulder harness as it weighs in at around 8lbs all up ,and believe it or not i hand hold it 95% of the time

WOW! thats impressive.... that's a great setup. I was looking at one one those lenses online a while back..didn't realize it extended that far. Geeze...you could use that as a club to protect yourself with. But they make great images
 
cheers ,yep its a super rig and does the job .initially i very nearly sent it back ,but once i got my head round using the usb dock and computer to fine tune it to my style i haven't looked back .i was forced to use my sons nikon d7200 and the tamrom 150-600 last week and its not a patch on this
 
That's a big boy for sure. I don't know how you hand hold that bit thing. I sure couldn't.
