started out today with the aim of finding 200 coins like Chris does but i failed miserably even with my boys count we were way off :( all up i got 104 coins for $55.50 my son had a good day with 15 coins for $9.50 & three hot wheels so we got 119 coins all up but that's not the worst of it i thought i might sneak a little bit of gold outta this hunt but i found not one peace & to rub salt into the wound at the second tot lot my boy popped out his first gold ( good on ya son  ) a nice small 18k white gold ring but all was not lost i did find a nice silver pendent with a CZ in it .

hay Mick my boys getting the hang of your old ace he can now tell if it"s a $1-$2 coin under the coil he tends to leave the rest for me to dig up

I'm glad to see that he is putting it to good use!
Yeah, the pinpoint on a $2 coin is quite distinct. The $1 coins sound close to a screw cap, but still has a faster fade, usually.
It looks like you had a good day out. I'd love to get back down to Sydney for some serious hunting around more harbour foreshores, as I reckon that there is a tonne of money still sitting there. I'm taking the youngest down there in a couple of weeks for a check up, but I won't get time to detect. So close, yet so far. I sure wish that I could live in the big smoke again and get those big totals happening again. Been hunting the local showground the last couple of weeks, after the show, but very poor results.
I think that you might make Chris just a little envious. He finds heaps more than we can, but our gold coins add up faster.
Catch ya soon.
Mick Evans.

Nice hunt!:thumbup:Congrats on the gold and silver!:clap:Nice clad haul! Sounds like some really good quality time.:twodetecting:Happy Hunting!

I'd take the ring over a 200 coin day anytime. I am feeling like seeing some gold again in a bad way.

I went out today too but put all the stuff up before I photoed it so I'm not going to post. 113 coins, 3 junk rings, and a small silver chain. I was shocked the 2500 picked up such a delicate little chain.

BTW, my 289 coin hunt yesterday was just over $28.00. Not sure where the exchange rate is but a few months ago our hunts would have been worth the same amount.

Chris

The only thing that would make me jealous is if I go to one of my favorite sites and find you guys there digging up all my loot. I have a feeling our dollar bill will be replaced sometime while Obama is President. Just a feeling. Then I can rack up the big dollar numbers like you guys! A fifty dollar hunt would be over 500 coins now and I would need a real good spot to do that.

Chris

Let me get this right. If your daughter and UW's grandson were to marry and have a child, that child would be able to pop gold rings from the ground using only the power of his/her mind? I guess Darwin was right.

Chris

thanks all
yeah my sons really happy about getting one up on dad  not often he gets to do that.

PS heres a pic of the pendent all cleaned up & on a chain. it"ll be the last time i see it as my wife"s go her eye on it .

If the US Treasury has half a brain, then they would save themselves a bucket load of money. A bank note has an average life of about ten days! So it makes sense to use $1 coins. Given than our $1 is worth 80 cents of your dollar, I wouldn't mind being 'on your turf to hunt them' Man think of all the people that you have living there and all those wonderful coins that they would drop.
Something that may be of interest. I was talking to a former bank manager a few months back, and he told me that when we first started to roll out out $1 and $2 coins 20 years ago, they were thinking of doing the same to $5! I heard an unsubstantiated rumour 12 months ago, that they were thinking about it again. If they did that, I'd be a very happy little detectorists.
Mick Evans.
P.S. I heard from both sources that the coin would be half way between the size of the $1 and $2 coin, which would be sweet.
