my cibola and tejon looks vey similar!!!!

Hello my friends, happy new year ! played at home with my not loved Cibola and new Tejon and I can say its look very similar! Tejon a bit deeper, just a bit ,but what I dont like,signal from target start to fade after it past Cibola max depth, did test on minimum, middle, max, sensitivity. Recovery speed Cibola and Tejon the same or no any different!! Can anyone explain me what I am doing wrong? I dont know about Tesoro to much ,but I dont see bright future for this manufacturer... i have now Cibola and Tejon and its look like- I have to get Tejon rival XP goldmaxx power..anyway what do you think fellows?and sorry for not being positive for Tesoro. thanks Stasys

I think I would like to see you post a fair comparison (depths and setttings used) between the XP goldmaxx and the Tejon in the metal detecting forum, if you get a goldmaxx machine. I do know that with a manual ground balance machine (Tejon), that if you're not groundbalancing right you will lose at least a couple of inches of depth (if not more) and the Cibola is a fixed ground balance machine so it will get the best depth its capable of (in your ground) without much help. And, without any kind of info of how you compared the two its hard to see if your test was done properly. But, we respect your right to feel this way and if it makes you happier get the goldmaxx, afterall this hobby is supposed be fun and some people just take to different machines. Happy New Year !

Thanks Canewrap! I did test in air in home reading Tejon manual.. I am really like to get faster detector for small items which I can not get quickly with my explorer, I even dont need and dont believe air test what I saw in youtube,they crank maxx sensitivity and sow miracles with all detectors--i dont know why people do this?? I did test Cibola and Tejon and they look very very similar! Yes Tejon deeper< but sound quality is like explosion and after clear LOUD signal response start disappear, it get more and more silent, so this is in my point -yes its possible to use this fading sound quality it in very special places, but from loud its drop to silent?? and tejon start to give silent signal part when Cibola ends give any signal?? some sort wrong design, Tejon deeper yes, but to use this additional deph its not easy. I mentioned XP goldmaxx, because its similar to tejon,but have more pluses, first widescan or double D coil, second most important you can hear iron and make it louder or silent, this is I think is real improvement! another thing is 3 different sounds for iron foil and other stuff. bud big minus XP its to much expensive. I bought Tejon because it was good price, but its not very promising that it will be better more then Cibola and the same One signal!. sorry for my disappointment but for manufacture to make this improvements should be very easy. I have a cibola and have a new tejon on the way. The cibola is a great detector, the preset ground balance is its only negative feature. I found with mine that it prefered a slightly negative ground balance. I removed the cover and adjusted it myself. The increase in depth was amazing! only problem is the ground mineralization where i now live constantly changes so as I'm hunting you can tell when it goes too negative by a noticeable increase in falsing. its too much work to constantly remove the control cover and adjust the G.B. every time the ground changes. I know alot of people suggest setting the g.b. a bit positive on the tesoros, but in discrimination mode, the negative g.b. will really show a depth improvement. As far as recovery speed, I've owned an explorer SE pro and my Cibola is so much faster! No contest there! And also, make sure your using top quality alkaline batteries, found my cibola works much better with energizers than with cheap no name batteries. Don't get discouraged yet, there are alot of great suggestions and knowledge on these forums! search for power-balancing on this forum, a great explanation and how-to post which shows and explains why the slight negative ground balance works so well with Tesoros discrimination! Try running the Tejon in VCO mode to give some variation to the tone and see if that works better for you. Also, you need to keep the coil moving at least some.

I think you mean the auto-re-tune. If you hold the coil still the sound disappears. The Tejon re-tunes faster than the Cibola and it sometimes makes it hard to pin-point. You have to keep the coil moving. Does not have to move fast, but needs to move. You can't just stay over a target like you can with some other detectors. I think I read you have an explorer, I think you can just about sit over a target and analyze it with the Explorer. With the Cibola and Tejon you need to keep the coil in motion.

or this is my bad English . My point was that Tejon sound respond to target is not very nice. when its close to coil you get very loud --like explosion sound, but when target passes border when cibola dont get target ,in Tejon sound Starts to fade or disappear in distance. my point that difference on Tejon from to loud -target close to coil- and to silent -target far from coil or reaching detecting death end-in my opinion very bad sound quality-bad engineering.to big contrast, for ears its should be not very healthy, I remember when I started to use cibola three years ago and after four hour use my head was like bell. in Tejon the same sound quality like cibola -but plus its possible to tune to make a bit different tone, but deeper signals on tejon is to silent to effectively use it without killing ears. Thank you all Stasys. Yes I use last two years explore has to own problems, but till now its one of the best, strange that it was made 1999 and till now not much improvement, one is interesting is XP DEUS, but its sickly expensive.

You havent said what headphones you are using so another option might be to go with a set of headphones like the Gray Ghost Ultimates that have signal limiting circuitry that lets you turn up the volume to hear low signals but keeps the shallow signals to an acceptable hearing level.

quality headphones are a must have when using a machine like the tejon..those fainting signals are telling you your depth on the target..

Have you tried the Tejon in VCO mode? It is a bit different. Not as much of a loud explosion on deeper targets and in pinpoint a lower pitch in the tone tells how deep it is.
