2010 was a very good year for old coins, almost as good as 2009 which was perhaps my best year, but this past year was special, since I finally got a 1793 Large Cent, also had hunts of where I got 4 Old Silver in the same hole and my ONLY Silver for 2010, and one old copper later that morning to make it an 5 old coin day. Also, on a hunt with my son I had a 5 copper day, with 3 of the coppers being Conn State Coppers, which is the most I ever got on one hunt.
Highlight of the year for coins has to be the silver finds, never, ever thought I would find a Bust Half Dollar, yet alone two of them and both in great shape, the Spanish silver with them was icing on the cake! My other highlight of course was getting the 1793 Flowing Hair Cent, I wished it had been in better shape but not too shabby and I sure won't complain.
As good as the year was for old coins, it was not a great year for finding unusual relics,, I got many many old buttons, but the vast majority were Tombacs and Plain Flat buttons with no backmarks. I guess I hunted sites too old.
I did manage an unusual shield that proved to be basically an advertisement for a Harness Maker from Philadelphia! The coolest relic however was the small 18th century cufflink I found, after cleaning I was pleasantly surprised to see a Sailing Ship on it..........
Overall a great year, a bit unusual, nothing later than one lonely 1898 Indian Head and 1858 Flying Eagle Cent, no Seated Liberty, Barbers, or even Mercs this year, but I do hunt out of the way sites and unless a hunter or other passerby lost them, they won't be found where I hunt...........
The vast majority of the finds were found with my almost 10 year Explorer XS, before it finally decided to take a break, my new SE Pro found 3 of the coppers near the end of the year.
