I'm pretty new to metal detecting! I can't seem to get deeper than 6 inches. So far I've gotten 88 pennies-only two wheats.44 45. 12 quarters,10 dimes,7 nickels, and a lot of {my wife says junk} treasures. HELP!!!! I ground balance {pushbutton method} my sens. at 7-8, enhance mode. Plus If you have any tips for me please feel free. thanks ronboy

They got to be deep to dig em my friend!
Not trying to be a wise guy...but seems most of your finds are clad which in general tend to be shallow.
I have dug coins from 2" to 11" with mine...got to find yourself a site where old coins were lost...ground make up plays a part with sink rates and other variables may apply...but older sites generally will produce deeper target's.
Like this little 2 cent piece which was about 8" deep.
Keep swinging my friend...the 3D will go deep.

Ron,
Like all CZ's the 3D needs to be run with the sens set at 5, + or - a little for best depth and seperation. Keep the volume out of the boost area and listen for those weaker high tone responses. If there are older/deep coins around that is how you will find them. Not all older coins are deeper either, depending on the site they can be surface to a couple of inches.
HH, Tom

Are there any deep coins here you are hunting??
I hope you swing slow as deepies are gotten that way.
Learn the bobbing method of ground balance. more precise
Turn your volume up to 10 and buy good headphones as perhaps you are not hearing them.
Run your sensitivity as high as you can while keeping a stable unit..
Be patient as they will come as deep as any unit on the planet and I would rate them 8-12 inch units undr most conditions.

Ron,
Boosting the sensitivity above 6 does not add depth. It only makes the detector more sensitive to targets off to the side which can mask good stuff next to junk/iron. High sensitivity settings along with volume settings in the audio boost area will make the deeper stuff sound louder, but only use those settings in a relatively trash free environment.
If you are hunting areas that like most, have been hunted for years, the good stuff that is left will be the tough target others missed. The settings I suggested below are what it takes to ferret them out.
Tom

Reason your'e not finding anything deeper , is it's not there, on my CZ5 I couldn't find nothin deeper'n bout 5 in , then i hit a spot where i was gettin OLD stuff down to 24 in. Then on the beaches of Florida i found lot of stuff 12-14 or so in. deep, around here don't matter how deep you go, it it ain't there you won't find it.
Detected my friend's yard, couldn't get a beep, thought detector was junk, then he came out and told me he had 3 ft. fill dirt hauled in 2 yr back,it's gotta b there to find it

Asked the tech if when then sens goes past 6 if the CZ went any deeper, he said yes a little deeper, he said it make's the cone bigger and longer. So it would go deeper, but it covers more area, my guess like going from a 8" cone to a 10" cone or coils, so while you may gain some detph, you will also be covering more area. The way that I see it, that is ok, if you are Not in a trashy area. I talked to Jerry @ 209-826-3292. HH...BJ

BJ,
Perhaps in certain conditions there may be a slight difference in depth using higher settings but I have not seen it. Hunted many times at sens 8 in areas where falsing is not a problem and never located a single target that the CZ would not pick up at 6. I totally agree with Dankowski when he says that sens 5 is the place to run for max depth and best seperation of targets. Well almost, I run 5.5 quite a bit.
Jerry's a great guy and has been a big help to me.

One can learn a lot from talking to guy's like Jerry & Tom D.One thing that I did not ask Jerry was, A friend of mine with a new CZ 5 and a test area on a 8" dime, he turned down the sens until he could not hear the dime and then turned it up slowly until he could just get the dime, now my friend sent the CZ 5 to Fisher for a check up and when he got the 5 back, he checked it again on the same dime, this time it would go one whole number lower and still get the dime, We used my CZ 3d and his CZ 5 and did the same thing, my 3d would go one number lower and get the dime than his 5 did. Does this mean that the 3d will go deeper than a CZ 5 ? The preset on my CZ 3d is a red 3, and if I remember right the red preset on a CZ 5 is 2, this make's me think that there is more of a difference between the CZ 5 and the CZ 3d than the wider windows or notch's. I will say that the CZ with a 5" coil has as much depth or more than some unit's have with a 8" coil.

BJ,
All I have to go by is my experience with the CZ5 and what Tom D. says about the 3D as I have never used one. That's not the first time I have heard of machines coming back a little hotter. We all know that not all machines are equal from the factory (some brands have a real bad rep in that regard).
I'm not doubting your friends tests, but is it possible that ground conditions could have been a factor?
I'm sure I'll be giving the 3D a tryout at some point and I hope you are right about the increased performance.
Got a Id Excel coming to compare against the C$ in iron. It's been getting some great reviews in that regard so just have to give it a tryout.

Tom, I was not there for the first and 2nd test with his CZ 5, but there was only like 3 weeks apart.
But on the test between his CZ 5 and my CZ 3D, this was done by him and also by me, same results. I know what you say is true in all units, some are a little hotter. It can be the coil or the control box or both.

Ron, I agree with Tom. I have never run my 3d above 5 on the sensitivity and I always run the volume at five and I use the best headphones. I can determine the depth by the strength of the signal. If you have bad hearing use the volume boost(above 5) Also, I hunt with a cz70 user and he uses the bobbing method and I use the pinpoint button method. I always make it a point to see where he ends up with his ground balance method compared to mine. Guess what, we are always set almost identical! It could be the machines, but when I bob, the two methods come out the same. I will always use the easier of the two. By the way, I have found two two cent pieces at eleven inches in the last month and my sens was five. It seems whereever I hunt, I get alot of end of swing chirping if I run the sens over five. This is the best coin detector I have ever used and I was a Minelab man previous to the 3d.

hi new to this forum i owned a fisher 1270 which in my opinion was of poor build quality the controls were flimsy and gave me a lot of false signals .im now using the xp advantis but have been thinking of buying this new cz3d.the one thing i need to know is is it silent because i cant stand having a detector beeping for no reason ??? also what is the build quality like ?? and finaly is it easy to use ??? marcus /wishmastertwo uk

First of all thank you all for all the tips! I have cheeper head phones. A better set would help I think. I do have a couple questions. When you get a high tone north to south but not east to west do you dig or not? How about east to west but only slightly north but not south. This one will show you how new I am to this GREAT hobby. When you get a high tone and you pinpointit. Ready for this----How do you lay your detector down time after time without hurting it? You have to lay it down on the ground to check the dirt as you dig it up. I thought about taping foam on the side that I lay it on? Thanks a lot everone GOOD LUCK HUNTING ronboy44
