My favorite coin find.....

I have gotten a couple requests to post my favorite coin find down on my share post below. Even though I have found older coins including other seated quarters. This 1876 CC Seated Quarter is my favorite one. It is my only Carson City minted coin to date, and in beautiful condition. To top it off I found it with one of my good friends Neal in IN while hunting an old park in Indiana. By the way, I am going to try to regularly post a ( Share Time ) post for all of us to share some of our finds over the years. Be watching!

I was just reading
http://www.findmall.com/read.php?13,1860484
when I noticed that Joe G seems to have found the exact same coin, but his is not in good condition.

This is a Chinese coin found at the Sofala goldfields in New South Wales, my home state.

The Chinese were very active on the Australian goldfields and I understand that they used their coinage as gambling tokens.

Apparently the coins are quite ancient, possibly as old as 400 years.

Chinese coins were not currency here.

Many Chinese coins have been recovered over the years, but this is the only one that I have found.

Not sure his is a CC that was made in Carson City?

Norm,
I was able to identify my coin as being from the Ming dynasty which dates the coin in the 1700's.
Everyone that talks about them on the forum says that they were over a hundred years old when
they were brought to this country laborers that worked mines brought them over to use between each
other as trade God Bless and HH

Great looking lady! Praise God for creating an artist that used his talent to both show beauty and trust in you !

Seated Liberty Quarter (1838-1891)
Mint Mark Information

For many years, Philadelphia medalist Christian Gobrecht sought a position with the US Mint, but was unsuccessful, at least in part, due to his lack of friendly connections with government personnel.

When Engraver William Kneass suffered a debilitating stroke in 1835, the door to the Mint swung open for Gobrecht. Director Robert M. Patterson set him to work on developing a new theme for the nation

I can honestly say I've not found any really old coins in the many, many years I've been detecting. Beautiful coin Mike. Congratulations on a great find. Who knows.......maybe someday I'll get lucky. God willing I'll be physically well enough to head out digging come spring.

Thank you George for identifying the Chinese coin, and the other interesting stuff about the US seated Liberty coin.

It's nice to have an expert on numismatics on the Forum.
