My first full week with the Tejon:clapping:

This has been my first full week with the "Tejon" and I am very impressed:clapping:. It was a rough start at first. learning it's language and playing with the tones. but my totals are;

.25 cents - 33
.10 cents- 87
.05 cents - 22
.01 cents - 180
1944 mercury
1921 wheat
French Franc
English 20 pence
1 piece of .925 jewelry (Small)
3 Tokens
1 mood ring
2 hand fulls of pull tabs:thumbdown: But that's where the gold lies:thumbup:

I detected for about 2 hours each day in parks and schools that I have hammered over the years, along with everyone else in the Los Angeles county.
I had a heck of a time breaking my self of looking down to see what the meter was telling me. I have noticed that I am now free to look around and keep in touch with everything going on around me (Just that much safer:starwars:)
The Tejon has no problem going deep, had several coin dug at 6 - 8 ". At my age and health that about as deep as I want to go:stretcher:

Wow! not bad for your first week with a new machine. Lotsa nickles in there. That's a good sign!

I've heard a lot about the tones. What did y0u learn from that. Some say that with the VCO it's easier to tell a pull tab by its sound.

VCO has it's own tones and sounds off differently when set in VCO. if you turn the tone knob past the click you're in a single adjustable tone. When it's clicked down it's in VCO.

I thought that the VCO mode was for pinpointing ? ......I've also read that a lot of guys put the tone knob at the 3:00 position (higher tone ) with good results as you can hear the tones change a little better depending on targets and depth .....Jim

Tesoro gives you the choice of VCO( voltage control oscillator) but its a set low tone and knob turned far left until it clicks.
Turn it to right and clicks out of VCO and farther right you go the tone gets higher and you have regular pinpointing..
Many prefer either and could give a good argument either way...Indeed VCO gives a dead on pinpoint but personally I can pinpoint well also with regular pinpoint and have my choice of tones to fit my hearing and headphones I am using and also I can size a target better and hear audio variances.
Certainly not going to have a debate but try both and again its your call and either work well and again Tesoro gives you the choice...

I should have stated that I wear Hearing aids:shrug:. I don't like hunting with them. The adjustment gives me the tone I can hear. I still haven't got the hang of Identifying pull tabs, buts that going to take a while.
I also should have said in my post that I am using the 5.75 coil. Seems too me that it goes just as deep as the stock coil. a lot easier to pin point the target, without out pulling the pin point switch. Also much lighter than the stock coil. Next coil on my list is the 5.75 DD coil for the desert.

Great coil choice for the hunting.

I'm impressed with the high dime count. I've found I get more dimes with the XL Pro and more nickles with the Tejon.

Curious as to how you might be using the second discriminator? (if you are using it).
Cheers,
tvr

I have been experimenting with the disc. Right now I have the first one set on nickles and the second one set on pull tabs. Seems that the pull tab count has dropped with fewer nickles. I am starting to think that I may go back to to one-set on pull tabs. second one- set on nickles. I suspect I may be passing up on some gold. But my back is killing me from digging so many pull tabs.
