my first gold piece

camel

New member
a lot of times i will meet someone new to detecting and they will ask me if i have ever found a gold coin.the answer is yes.the first one was in the yard of a house that was built in 1920.i was searching next to the side walk in the front yard.i got a signal that showed to be tin foil at 3 inches, but it sounded real smooth and faint.i made the plug with my screwdriver and out popped a 1906 five dollar gold piece.after forty years of detecting,i have found one other gold coin and two more gold coins that were set in bezels and used as jewelry.the first one was the most fun to find.now if i can just find a silver dollar that has eluded me i will be happy.

Most of us will only dream of finding just one! Congrats to you! Do you have pics? We would love to see them!

hoping one day to find my first gold coin...I did everything including foil and pull tabs - don't want to miss that gold coin waiting for me

great going that you paid attention to the sound/signal and dug it anyway !~ How about some pics ? steve in so az

That is really great, Camel! I have never found a gold coin or silver dollar nor rings with shiny diamonds either, but they who dig diligently find the good stuff! Now that I am older and unhealthy, if I did detect, I just couldn't dig everything although I did find a lot when I was healthier and younger! I have Osteo-Arthritis, COPD and emphysema and can't do much as I get out of breath with no energy! It takes all my strength to do what I need to do and I let a lot of that go also! Hope and pray you keep on, keepin' on with the Lord and finding gold and silver while you're :detecting: Go for the gold and have fun doing it!

God Bless!

I'm working on getting a camera.as to the gold coins i sold them along with a bunch of silver coins to upgrade my detectors.will start posting some of my favorite finds when i get the camera.I think the key to finding the gold is look around old places where people with money may have lived.

well Betty first and foremost well pray that those bad health conditions go away.aim 68 years old and I'm still in pretty good health.my number one camel named Elijah kicked me in my right knee 3 years ago and i have a little trouble with that.what i do now is research a spot and go check it out.although if i drive by a likely place ill stop and look for a little while.

I am glad you are in good health......I am 72 and my health has went downhill since I did all that :detecting: When you can't get enough oxygen to breathe then a person gets very tired easily and quickly! I have prayed, and many others, often for my complete healing, but so far God hasn't answered in the way I would like for Him to do! But whatever His will is for me, I will be satisfied in knowing Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior! My healing will come when I see Him in the rapture of the saints! Praise God!

I don't drive very far any more to find older places to hunt! Too dangerous for an old woman and financially I am unable to pay for long trips nor to find old homes!

But I pray you keep on, keepin' on :detecting: and finding the goodies!

God Bless!

this particular gold piece is not one of the rare ones.a 5.00 gold coin contains 24.18 percent of an ounce.i got 175.00 for the coin about 12 years ago.I have found a mint 1932d quarter,i havent looked in a coin book in ten years but its probably the most expensive coin ive found.and no thats certainly not a stupid question
