My First Gold with the E-Trac

unearth

Member
Hello All-
I was hunting a tot lot during my lunch break on Tuesday finding the usual clad, when, while hunting
under a jungle gym unit, I found this nice little piece of 14K gold. The area I was hunting was fairly
confined, about 4 or 5 feet in diameter and only about 4 feet of head room, with metal support bars all around and one down the center. I was picking up the sounds of the metal bars when, while working the sand area around them, a low sound, 12-04 digital, came through. I was very happy to fine, but still disappointed in my total gold count, my 3rd piece of gold for the year. Here is a picture of the little gold piece and the gym unit I found it under.

Gary, out of curiosity, can you recall your sensitivity level?

It is of interest, in as much as you were in the metal pole environment.

What was your screen pattern for such a situation?

Much appreciated ....MattR

MattR-
My sensitivity, I believe, was at 13 in manual. Maybe 14. The pattern I was using is a modified Gordon Heritage pattern. You can view the pattern on page 2 of the E-Trac forum, about 3/4's down the page. The difference I made to the pattern is I disc out 1-48, 1-49, and 1-50 on the conductive scale using the smallest cursor. That is the area at the extreme top right. The reason for this, I'm told by a more experienced detectorist with an E-Trac, is to help stop the some of the extremely high pitch sounds. I then did some air testing with a barber, walking liberty and franklin half dollar...heard them all. Also air tested a morgan and peace dollar...heard them also. That's about it Matt. Hope that helps.
