Of course its raining when I get it. Like the feel, balance and features. Its used but looks new. All features check out except when setting to factory defaults. The desc bars at bottom whouldn't clear to default. Removed manually. The volume is not that strong through headphones. Turned up volume to 30 when I plugged HP's in. Do I need a higher ohm rating for the headphones? Dont think its the MD. Hope to use in test garden today. Ive got a GBSE, 19 KHZ w/5" and 11" DD coils so the 705 is mostly for the lower freq. I am going for the 6" concentric for the parks. In milder soil it should go deeper than 6"DD.

My first Minelab 705

Congrats on the 705. I think you will appreciate the weight, balance and functionality. Factory default does not clear out the discrimination "bars" entirely. Default takes it back to Pattern 1, with notch segments -8, -6, -4, -2 and +48 set to reject. Headphone quality does make a difference on any detector. However, I run my volume at 30 with the detector and use the volume controls on my Gray ghost NDT's to make adjustments. I agree the 6-inch concentric should go a bit deeper than the 6-inch DD, in moderately mineralized soil. Concentrics just don't have quite the separation capabilites as the DD. But, it should serve you well. HH Randy
The desc bars were there for default but 2 more in 30's wouldnt go away until deleted manually. Retested and it worked. Volume will be ok. Learning how to use threshold tone. 10.5 coil looks heavy. Hoping 9" will do. Trying to keep weight down. Devoloped Tennis Elbow and I like to hunt for as long as I can.
