My first Minelab

Hi Well i did it, i bought my first minelab after hearing all the great things about minelab's. i bought a used Explorer XS for $400.00 with 10" and 7" coils in great condition no cracks, a few scuffs but what can you expect for a 7+ year old machine. i hope i did not over pay but i think this will be the best way to see if i can pick up on the explorers and try to learn. anyone have any tips for me i will be doing some beach hunting this weekend. should i stick to pre-set programs first time out? or anyone have any suggestions for settings.

works well for others might not be for you. The Explorer's are excellant machines if you just take the time to learn them properly. I've had my EXP II since 10/8/03 and I'm still learning and experimenting with different settings. Goodluck and HH!

I would def. say that is a deal! TBH I would use the smaller coil just cause it is easier to pinpoint and it goes deep enough any bigger and you will be wishing you had a backhoe. The beach I hunt has lots of minerals which can drag a good coin to complete left but the heighth is the same as if it had no minerals close by. So knowing this I disc. nothing....Wide open smart screen and dig all but high left solid iron. Even though a high left solid irom on smart screen and very deep on depth screen could very well be a good target I dug a few and just dug iron but could be good just back gets sore after too many of thoughs. Dig it all and you will learn your beach. When you get good with smaller coil then go for faster bigger coil coverage and learn to pinpoint good with it.Do what you want to start slow and use turn on and go or go right to smart screen and leave the screen wide open. You need to read the book and set up each and every preference and get familiar with the menu button and where everything is .I could give you my setup but I am sure you will try it and make changes to your liking. I do suggest you use gain 7, ferrous sounds, deep on only in recovery, tones 10 and varibilty 8 or test them out and find what you like. Don't be afraid to turn up sensativity to 22 or better if it is stable enough without lots of falsing. Everytime you see where box is on smart screen, check digital # just to get a refer. to each other. READ THE BOOK FROM COVER TO COVER AND PRACTICE with coins and rings at home. Use a rug to hide a coin under and pinpoint practice to see if you can pinpoint good. I could go on forever but need to move on. I have left alot out so this is just a few things ......Good luck and have fun!
