Last Friday and Sunday, Myself Sunzabeach, and Crusty were invited to hunt on private property in north Alabama. After fighting the mosquitoes and briar's in the woods, I found two pieces of cannon ball shards Friday. Sunzabeach found five minnie balls, and Krusty found four. Sunday I found ten minnie balls,:drinking: crusty found a whopping twenty, plus a union eagle button,:please: Needless to say Sunzabeach came home with a flattened musket ball.However, it was someone else's turn to get ragged all the way home like I was Friday. We all look like we were thrown into the lions den from all of the Bria cuts though. I hope to find some other places to go, because the hunt is 90% of the fun! Happy Hunting Grounds,

Thanks SNOWY, we sure did. Civil War relic hunting in the woods is surely demanding. Friday's hunt was without insect repellent, and the mosquitoes were thick. Saturday's hunt, we were prepared with deep woods off, and a good quality root cutter. However the briar's were so bad, the upper shaft on my explorer looks like it has been sand blasted because of them. They hang down from the trees and it is imposable to navigate through them without getting hung up. However, I can replace the upper shaft, but I can't replace that rush of picking up a Confederate Enfield bullet that has not been touched in 140 years! I plan on using *area permitting*, my 18" excelerator coil next time. The explorer II is effective 12" in those conditions. I should be able to go quite deeper with the 18" Thanks again SNOWY. Well Savage - we did do well both days - Friday and Sunday. Learned to REALLY remember to bring the bug spray, to bring and dig with shovels- CAREFULLY, and Oh, by the way, did I mention I took Sunzabeach to the cleaners Sunday?..(hee...hee...), well you both usually take me out - but I got my sweet revenge (but Savage did find a penny - I none, so our every hunt "oldest coin" dollar bet - he took with a 1992 zinc memorial, Aye - ye rotten scoundrel gots' me dollar agin's...!).

The briar's were thick and a real pain, but Savage and I fought them and Sunzabeach took the easier paths that day and thus why the turnover for Sunday's difference in finds for us.

The property is private, but we found digging holes everywhere as it seems quite a few people have illegally been on the property and with over a thousands exposed holes left, many - very old, they also didn't care to cover them back up and we at least always follow the code and respect the rights and properties of others. I understand the desire is great, but wish others would do the right thing and not disrespect others property as it gives us all a bad name.

Again, we had a great two days, and for an appeared well hunted out place - I found over-all both days: 24 minie balls - with one much longer and appears to be a rarer sharpshooter's bullet and one - and with one a partial minie ball flattened out with some symbols on it, five cannon shards (two real large and just awesome), two overflow lead pieces (real neat when an expert told what it was!) from a bullet mold, one grapeshot, three rifle musket balls, four pistol musket balls , about 82 iron nails (rats on them - wore me out digging all them!!) and the kicker Union Eagle Coat Button - it WAS a good day! It makes you think about what all those soldiers really went through over 140 years ago.

Let me know the next time you're up this way and if time allows I'll try to put you on some relics, my spot is a slim pickings but alway's produces a keeper or two.

I am gonna take my shovel to the grinder, and then put the flat file on it:drinking: Then when those obstructed paths in the woods challenge me, I can cleave them off with ease! After all, the entrenching tool was sharpened and used effectively in many wars.:starwars: Happy Hunting Grounds,
