My First War Nickel

Clad2Hunt

Member
Had a few minutes this afternoon so I hunted a spot I have known about for awhile but havent been near until today. Started out finding most of the wheats in one area. The 1943P nickel and the 1954D Rosie were in the same hole not far from the wheats. Got a 13 bounce to 38. Checked in Ferrous and got a higher tone 13 I was digging. The nickel was at the bottom and the dime was a inch shallower and just offset about half the coin width. Finding the square nails at the site was a surprize. 11 Wheats from the 40's and 50's. They are some crusty ones.

Congrats on the war nickle, they're hard to find, I only dug one so far and my other one was found in some loose change I recieved. Always check them dates, even pocket change.

Found my first and only war nickel in the mid 80s with a Tesoro Inca. The only nickel I found that wasn't in the same whole as clad. I used to run with the discriminator cranked up eliminating normal nickels and tabs. I recall a guy in the park with a whites and near a hundred tabs and maybe 10 coins mostly pennys; while I had several dollars and two or three tabs and no nickels.
