Well, my decision to upgrade or just sell my GTI-2000 was made for me when it died completely. Garrett received it and said that it was a combination of bits gone bad on the main board and a hole in the searchcoil. Was an easy decision.
For $350 including shipping, they're replacing all the guts, buttons, housing stickers, display and even the searchcoil to make it into a brand new GTI-2500. Will come with manual and training DVD.
While I like the versatility of the AT Pro, I'm an old-time Garrett "Green-Box" guy. I like the imaging of the GTI series, the solidness of the whole machine and the fact that it's designed properly ergonomically speaking and won't make my back go out of whack like the AT Pro does.
I'm tempted to see if I can trade for a new GTI-1500 once I get it back, just because I like a smaller, more nimble machine. But I'll have to decide if the features I'll lose will be worth it.
Decisions, decisions...
