My FrankenGarrett is on the operating table...

Well, my decision to upgrade or just sell my GTI-2000 was made for me when it died completely. Garrett received it and said that it was a combination of bits gone bad on the main board and a hole in the searchcoil. Was an easy decision.

For $350 including shipping, they're replacing all the guts, buttons, housing stickers, display and even the searchcoil to make it into a brand new GTI-2500. Will come with manual and training DVD.

While I like the versatility of the AT Pro, I'm an old-time Garrett "Green-Box" guy. I like the imaging of the GTI series, the solidness of the whole machine and the fact that it's designed properly ergonomically speaking and won't make my back go out of whack like the AT Pro does.

I'm tempted to see if I can trade for a new GTI-1500 once I get it back, just because I like a smaller, more nimble machine. But I'll have to decide if the features I'll lose will be worth it.

Decisions, decisions...

That is fair, for sure. But it's a shocker.
I sent a GMH III to them a year or so ago and it cost $91 to rebuild. So $350 is a bit of a slippery rock....
But a new 2500 in the bargain from an old 2000 - that aint so bad.

I paid $100 for the machine used. I see now why the guy sold it so cheap. So for $450 to get a 2500, is a pretty good deal I guess. Got a call that it's ready. Just need to come up with $250 now... May have to wait until next week... I did a lot of wheeling and dealing over the past 3 months with buying and selling detectors, but finally ended up getting an AT Pro and a GTI 2500 for about $800 total. After using the AT Pro for a while now, there are definite times when I'd use one over the other. So now that I have both of these, it's time for them to release the AT Pro 2, and the GTI 3500. I always seem to buy into tech just before newer versions of whatever are released.

Basically the GTI2500 is a tad bulky and boxy and sure don't want anyone talking to me eating up batteries however GTI1500 gives you an easier unit to handle but you will have to give up the that all metal mode that ID's which is surely as deep as any on the market..As far as the ATpro seems to be a love-hate unit with a learning period that is nose heavy and the DD coil sure loves bottlecaps..but I like the price for the abilities and many do well with them once learned and certainly can compete with other manufactures top of the line that cost twice as much...

Yeah, $100 was a red flag for sure!
But it is all coming together from the sound of it.

Sounds like a deal to me. And that should basically be like a new one as far as the innerds.
Quite a bit of detector for 4.5 C notes.
