1st, are your AA batteries good? If you know they are, you may have accidentally turned the battery pack the wrong way when installed.
FYI you have posted under the Nokta Simplex Detector forum. Hopefully a moderator will move the post to the correct forum.

That's the one thing that bugged me about the pro.
No notch for one way installation.
Not markings I could see.
I used a scratch awl and made two arrows pointing at each other.
