My hunt with the older Sunray S-12 Ultra Depth.

I bought this coil from loverspulltabs(Gary) I have owned two of these coils and today was the first time in the field use.The reason the first coil was sold after an air test comparison between the older Sunray coil and the BBS 800 the older S-12 fell short of about 1/2 and inch so why lug this heavy coil on a hunt. This coil would be different but after an air test against the 7 1/4 inch coil the old Ultra depth lost by the same margin and seemed very lame.Yea I know the old story we don't find coins in the air but the matrix of the ground is the most important.Anyway during the two hour hunt in the park with this coil was pleasant surprise which in my opinion this coil is deeper than the 800 coil. The old Sunray gave a very smooth response and separated targets extremely well. One target gave three different tones blend together one side in the 160s in the middle a 180 the other end 150s.A plug was cut around the 180 signal and at a depth of about 7 inches recovered a 1947 silver Roosevelt dime. The signal was strong and smooth amazing on the bench an air test would not quite give 8 inches on a dime so this coil does work better in the field.I'm looking forward to the next couple of hunts to see how this coil performs.By the way the temp here in Michigan was around 52 degrees no wind nice to see the orange and yellow leafs on the trees a great fall day hunt.HH Ron

Hi Ron, glad to hear you had success with the 12" ultra depth. I've found that air testing with my Sovereign or my Explorer is not a true test of how deep the machines will really detect a target in undisturbed ground. I've never been disappointed with any SunRay product that I have used. Continued good luck to you!

Gary,I agree Sunray has always made great products. The old Sunray meters are very sought after and hard to find.I'm going for a short fall hunt again today. Thanks Ron

Hi Ron. That is pretty interesting I'm assuming you used this on your GT,right? How do you think the Sunray compares to an SEF coil. In particular a 12x10.Congrat''s on the deep dime.
Good hunting,Gary

Gary,I have not used the 10x12 SEF coil on a Sovereign.I did have this SEF on a Explorer ll but that would be a apple and oranges comparison.I did hunt today with the S-12 Ultra and found a couple of wheat's and clad in one of my not so favored parks.I 'm not sure how this coil compares with other coils at this point. My deepest coin so far has been found with the 10 inch Tornado which I have used in the past.I'm down to one Sovereign an old XS which works very well for my park hunting. Thanks Ron
