Beautiful job ! I so badly want to find a steel penny

I'll post my penny finds later

Wow. Now that's nice!!!

Hey - a co-worker of mine just got a new Garrett machine last week and tried it out in a nearby park. He didn't find allot being new to detecting - pull tabs and what not, and around 25 cents in various coins. One penny spiked my curiosity. It was not a wheat - but it really looks like the third digit is an upside down and backwards number 5. The coin is pretty worn - but I told him he might have something worth a bunch. Have you ever heard of such a coin? I will ask him if I can take a photo of it when I head back to work tomorrow and post it back to this thread if I can. It's a very interesting looking penny for sure.

collection of pennies and other coins before I ever started metal-detecting, but I never kept up on my penny coin book.....I worked out of the home and in my home, so really was just too busy to do right by my coins. While working in the hospital as night bookkeeper in the 60's, I started collecting all the silver coins and odd coins that I could....even had some to give me foreign coins...because they are so pretty and though not worth much...I do like collecting them! I collected both foreign coins and paper money from a private company....I think it was Littleton....but not sure any more! Anyway congrats on your collecting coins and paper money......that is what gets most people into detecting to find some for themselves!

God Bless!

yea, I have been lazy in the past couple of years, I have to start buying more.

but no clue where they are after all the moves I made over all the years. Wish I had one to add to my coin strips...I have 3 strips of clear plastic packaging tape. Each strip has coins placed about a foot and a half apart. I lay the strips down on a 'cleared' area and 'tune' my Minelab Explorer II (and my ears) to each coin on the strips. Don't have a steel penny yet. I have coins from penny all the way to dollar coins (US) and am working on another strip for Canadian. I have some pennies, dimes, Loonies and Twonies for it. (With fewer Canadians coming into the USA since 9/11, I don't figure I will find many Canadian coins.

Congrats on the sweet penny collection.
