My oldest coin and two broken diggers

MT_VertCaver

New member
Found my oldest coin (so far) today. A 1925-S penny.:clapping:

I also broke both of my diggers. :veryangry:
I WAS going to just order a Predator/Lesche right away....but I think I'll try welding a handle onto my broken one first. It's no wonder it didn't hold up....the steel didn't go all the way up into the handle

Get yourself the lesche digger... it is one great tool and very durable.
Once you try it, you will not be disappointed in its performance.
They really allow you to dig in dry ground too.
Congradulations on the wheatie!!
Felix

Grab both of those diggers firmly by the handle, look both ways, heave them as far as you can throw them.... LOL. A good digger is irreplaceable. A $40 Leische... not sure it has to be that valuable, but I have had the same two diggers for years, and they are still like new. I like the stainless ones with the serrated edges, I dress the cutting edge with my belt sander a time or two a year..

My Lesche ended up being $45. Amazon.com

Yeah.....everyone was right...it's worth it.

SeniorSeeker - If you look in the photo, that's what I broke(Ames). I welded the tip on a couple of weeks ago.

Once I saw how the Ames was constructed(very little steel going up into the handle and it's not even centered), I bit the bullet and bought the Lesche. I used the Lesche for the first time last night. The Lesche isn't nearly as comfortable to use...but, as everyone says, it IS bombproof.

Tru Temper has a lifetime warranty....call their Customer Service number and they will ship you a free one.

I had to do this about 3 months ago....and they shipped it right away. Good company.

that is a ames true temper broke in the picture above . I have broke two of them and now have a lesche and will never be without one. North georgia relics is the cheapest I have found 30 something plus shipping and they are a findmall sponsor. If you detect alot true temper will break. I like them but broke two of them.

Uhhhmmmmm.....I modified my Ames. I cut teeth into the smooth side and welded on a point.

That probably voids my warranty. Oh well. Good to know they stand behind there product.

I bought a Sears Craftsman Garden Planter tool for $8.98 and ground down the working end to a razor edge and "for the money" you can't buy a better digging tool. The only downside is that the handle makes it look a lot more dangerous to the public than it really is.

You just tell them you broke it on the phone...they don't make you ship back the old one. You just need the product code off of the packaging.

Good luck!

When I first started bought a sears garden tool with lifetime warranty...after breaking 6 or 7 and getting a replacement asked for my money back and was told no refunds just replacements so I gave a brand new one to the neighbor lady who gardens and bought a 3 in one knife the original with a wooden handle and after 20 years its about an inch shorter from sharpening but still going strong. Moral of story buy a tool made for the hobby and Lesche is an excellent choice as I don't think the original 3 in 1 is made anymore and the 3 in 1(wanna be) with plastic handle snaps just like the sears garden tool...

Congrats on your oldest MT V:clapping:

I made my own digger for $0
from scrap stainless steel tubing given to me from a metal engineeering workshop
it cuts a much neater plug than my Lesche
I use the lesche for rough bush hunting where neat plugs are not a neccessity
