My son keeps borrowing my detector -- Need Help

A few years ago my son kept laughing at me about my metal detecting. Now that he is a little older and wiser he has finally come to his senses about detecting. Problem is he keeps borrowing MY detector.

So I've decided to buy a backup model so I can "loan" him that one. I'd like to pay under $300. Any suggestions as to which model to buy? Most features for the buck? Thanks in advance for any responses.

The Ace 250 is the best deal on the market. I've seen magazines that have ads of it. They include a lot of stuff( Small coil, books, hunting tool)
