My wife and the RAT! Women seem to have an ingrained fear of rodents and .........

my girl is no exception <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
I got a phone call at work one day from my very upset and excited wife Carol.
After a couple "whoas" and a "slow down", i got the message.
Seems she had gone to the bathroom, then after finishing her business, stood up and turned to flush the toilet, only to see a large Rat swimming around in the bowl! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> Of course she totally freaked out, hollering and squealing! The kids were home along with one of their friends, in their mid teens at this time, this brought them running of course and the first response from them when they figured out what all the excitement was about and realised that their Mom was not dying or worse <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> was.....lets throw the cat in there! Along with some giggles behind the hand too <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
Carol had rushed out and closed the door, as Mr.Rat had exited the bowl.
In goes the Cat, now she was not a very large Cat, kinda small actually.....and proceeded to ignore the interloper. Like in....you want me to fight with THAT thing? No way!
Thus the frantic phone call to me <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
I could kinda tell by our sons voice in the background that he was trying real hard to act serious <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
After a few moments while i forced myself not to break up and laugh <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin"> i said........put Moocher in there. Carol says .....what!? I replied, no kidding, put Moocher in there! Then call me back when its over. Well ok she said, sounding unconvinced.
Moocher was our American Cocker Spaniel and Carol actually did not know what a savage little critter she was <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin"> I had bought her for Carol as a tiny pup a couple years previously to replace her previous Cocker that had met with a car tire.
Most Spaniels will hunt but when i purchased this little gal, the lady showed me both parents and they were all done up for show. Groomed to the max and looking like, well like....sissies <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> There were none others around tho and i figured heck, its only a pet.
The name nickname "Moocher" (her proper name was Caillie) had to do with grub of course.
As she grew and followed me around with our good yellow Lab, she showed her true colors. She may have been from "show" blood, but she had a nose that was awesome, and an attitude! Loved to retrieve, her mentor "Shandy" the Lab had taught her that. The difference was that Moocher like Shandy, never put a mark on a Ruffie or a pheasant, but would instantly kill a small varmint or pest! She seemed to know, while the Lab would just ignore anything that was not "game".
Back to the story! The phone call came a few minutes later as expected. They had opened the door and put Moocher in the bathroom. It took only seconds as the little murderer and the Rat made a couple loops around the floor, then, snap! and it was over.
This happened about 8 years ago and Carols memory is still fresh <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin"> for a long while she would sneak up on the toilet, lift the lid while standing back and...... <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
Rats and toilets and women don't mix! I kinda was careful for a while myself <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

And I know what you mean about women and rats!My wife Linda is terrified of rats and even miceThe only critter she is more scared of is snakes.I have tried to explain to her that snakes eat rats-they key to keeping rats away is to allow a few snakes around....She responds by telling me that the key to keeping her around is to keep BOTH the rats and snakes away.Women.......! <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock">

My dear hubby told everyone,....Aspirin won't help him tonight <img src="/metal/html/tongue.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":b">

He probably isn't thinking straight from all that hard work he's been doing! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

if I was a setting on the throne and looked down betwix my legs and saw a dang Rat!! I would be some upset my own self!!
That just has to have a bit of purging power!!! <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">

have been many things worse than this on here! But, wow! I would have freaked out too. I would just as soon come upon a snake as a dang mouse or rat! I don't know what it is! I'm not really afraid of them, they just gross me out!
And, by the way, I just tell my husband how thoughtful he's been, take the aspirin, and roll over and go to sleep! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

probably as tired or even more so from all that supervisin' she's been doing! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

The jerks have taken over that duty from any cats that we had. Besides they are more personable too.
Great story Wayne.
Remind me to tell you about the packrat in our basement, the dogs, me tromping around nekkid in -5 degree weather at 2:00 in the morning.
all the best

Poor Carol, she must have really been scared! Now that I know that she is reading what is being posted on the Forum, I need to be more careful, right? <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> Thanks for sharing, it is kinda funny!
