My wife is upset with me ....

I sold my detector last week and she's upset with me.
I'm always working and didn't seem to have enough time to
enjoy the hobby.

She insists that I get another detector because she says it's
good stress relief for me. Really ... I can think of better ways
but being the nice guy I am ..... I decided that I'll get another
machine to make her happy.

I been looking at the Xtera 705. I hunt parks, soccer fields, tot
lots, and the jewelry is what I am after. I may go a beach once a
year.

With this being said ....what would be the best coil for the 705?

or ....should I just get the Tesoro Compadre and go the simple
and cheap route?

Your thoughts?

A Compadre? Really? Do you just want a beep-and-dig machine?

What did you have before?

In the past I had a Safari, the Cibola, and the M6.

But if you have to dig all to get the jewelry ....why not just
a simple beep and dig? If you disc out any of the presets,
then you miss some of the good stuff anyway. So that's why
I am thinking ....why not just a beep and dig like the Compadre.

Larry,
The Minelab 705 is awesome detector. Being able to switch coils and it changes the frequency is a AWESOME feature no other machine has. Very cool!
Holler me with any questions or for a great deal! Love to help you, Bart.

Go for the XT-705 if you have the green light. It's capabilities and possibilites make it the way to go. It comes with a medium frequency concentric coil which is good for coins and artifacts, but I hear that the 3 khz coil available for it is a real silver coin killer. I don't think you would be disappointed in it.

People who have the Compadre speak very favourably about it when it comes to finding jewellery....that said, the 705 will give you more versatility, particularly if you do go to the beach every now and then. With a variety of coils (and the consequent variety of detecting frequencies) available, the 705 can be as versatile as you want, or can afford, it to be. The Compadre coil is hard-wired, so the 705 is ahead there. As I said, people who use the Compadre claim that it is a great detector for parks and tot lots, but in the wide open spaces or at the beach, the 705 would have to be the preferred machine. JMO..good luck.

Battery life is tremendous

I'd go with the X-Terra 705 Gold Pack and then get the 9" 7.5 kHz coil too, this will give you more flexibility for hunting. The 9" coil is also waterproof, ideal for streams and lakes and the beach, just don't get the control box wet as it's not water tight.

The stock 10"x5" coil on the Gold Pack is ideal for the type of hunting you do and works well in trashy areas if you take your time. The other coil I've listed above is great for less trashy areas like open fields.

FOR THE MONEY....

I firmly believe that the X-Terra's are worth it. Especially with all the FREE advice/instruction on the internet. NO other detector has anything close to the X-Terra's. (Mostly thanks to Digger's free e-book and this forum)

From what I've read...the Compadre is also a great detector....for the money. (Although you can't change coils AT ALL.) The BH 505 can at least change coils.

So....do you really want to keep metal detecting???....or would you rather do something else? If something else....ignore everything below and go have fun doing what you WANT to do.

IF you really want to metal detect.........how much time will you put into it???

From experience...the 70's and 705's are worth it. (so are the 305' and 505's) IF you WANT to detect.

....just to get the wife off of your back.........and still have fun once or twice a year.....Compadre is a great Tot Lot detector. (from what I've read)

These are just my opinions.....with only one year of detecting experience.

This is supposed to be fun. If you can have MORE fun doing something else.......
