Mystery Coin?

I dug this half dollar sizes coin(?) at a C.W. era site last summer. It is copper-bronze and has the look and feel of a coin.It was so badly corroded when dug no details were visible. After about a month of soaking in olive oil, a few details are visible on one side.I believe it also had something on the other side but it is too far gone to see.If anyone can I.D. it,I not only will appreciate it,I will be greatly impressed. Thanks in advance...

It looks like it may have enough detail left to identify. But the corrosion makes it very difficult to see in your photograph. If not then Steve might be able to enhance it enough to help us out.

With no better results.I can see more details in the scan than I can on the object itself.(Magnified it and changed the contrast)

...gosh, try to say that 5 times fast <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

You should have mail.(Provided I didn't screw up sending the pic!)Thanks for your help.

It looks a bit like a Lower Canada Bank Token. I have to dig mine out to compare. Not an uncommon find in US Civil War sites. It is estimated that as many as 55,000 Canadians served in the War. I know of lots of both Upper and Lower Canada Bank Tokens being found around the Federal Campsites around Falmouth VA

...but it has been compressed too much leaving a lot of "jpg relics", those cross hatch marks that make it impossible to do much with.
A little clearer picture of CC's angel though.
Hey Dan, have you tried Tony's trick, wetting the coin, dusting it with cornstarch, and then wiping the high relief? I can see words there, but can't make anything out.
