Napoleon III coin

Hello. I have been following this forum since I got a Safari a few months ago. I am still on th learning curve after using an XLT for years. I particularly appreciate how willing the folks in this forum are to share information and advice. Thank you. I thought you would like to see this coin I found last week. It is a Napoleon III twenty franc gold piece. The date is 1867. Although part of the date was drilled thrrough, the 7 is still visible and 1867 is the only possible date for this specific coin. It was found on an old homestead that was owned by a well-to-do family. It was abandoned about 1910 and torn down in the 1920s. Super trashy site that really tests my patience. FYI, this coin is almost exactly the size of a nickel. It rang a consistent 22 and was about 4" deep. Not very deep but this is common in the thin, rocky ridge-top soils here in West Virginia.

Awesome find! Looking forward to more of your finds.
Thanks for the numbers.

Very nice and just like my 1851 gold $1...it's drilled :( but that's ok, a gold coin is a gold coin is a gold coin!!!!!!! Still a great accomplishment to detect and what a thrill:yikes: when you see that glint of gold in that hole you just digged!!!! much more exciting than a hole in one!!!:bouncy:
