Narrow detection field

Does the detection field change much with sensitivity?

YES it does-, because sensitivity is made how deep you want to hear targets, because detector sends max electro magnetic field all the time and only operator choose from how deep he wants to hear targets. take coin in the hand and wave in front of the coil with lower and max sensitivity and you will see different.
