Neat fairground find today

cool!!! what is it?

Congrats on the beautiful piece but what is it and what is its size? Looks like a broache to wear on a blouse or coat! Some of those pieces of jewelry contained locks of hair from a deceased loved one as well as precious or semi-precious stones! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

my mom is a collector of old broaches and said she thinks is from around 1900.........I wish I had taken a before shot, it was black and coated with a hard crust, soaked in peroxide, then lime a way, then had to use a brillo pad on it to bring it back to life, will look good in the display case now.

What a find! That's a beaut!!!!

Yes, probably a broach worn on a nice dress or coat! Really cleaned up good, but I sure wouldnt recommend using a Brillo pad on something valuable! To be sooo black and crusted when found, you would think it would be silver but looks gold-color in the pic! Also, could be bronze.....I think bronze might turn black...but I think Copper corrodes and turns bluish and greenish in color! Anyway a very nice find for your collectible's display! May God Bless you to keep finding those nice old goodies! Amen! Ma Betty

I think it is bronze or copper, and remember Ma, I don't sell anything, I want it to look good for me in my display. The brillo pads are extremely fine and soft, I had to scrub and scrub almost wore my hands out cleaning it up!

I don't detect to make money, I love old relics and want them to be presentable to show in my curio cabinet, now if it were an old coin I would have not touched it with the brillo pad...lol. I'd rather have a relic that is cleaned up and beautiful VS. a black crusty unapealing piece of metal

some things you hurt the value by cleaning and other things you improve the value by cleaning. if I had a before picture you would def agree I did the right thing.

n/t

I didn't disagree with you Terry on cleaning it up for yourself....I was just stating for other peoples' benefit that you don't mess with a valuable coin or relic and ruin its reselling price! I know you keep everything and so far that is what I have mostly done, but the time is coming for me to turn loose in exchange for the money I need to keep paying on my house and paying the bills! At my age, I either need to sell most of my collectibles or save them for my three kids to fight over and that wouldn't be good! Soooo, for Ma's benefit, by my working so hard while :detecting: I should get the benefit from them before I die! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty
