Neat Rock

Another interesting rock. Lots of big garnets that did not fully form all squished together in a matrix of other mineralization including mica and quartz. (I think). I searched for other similar specimens in the area but could not find any more. It is surprisingly heavy (dense).

Probably an ironstone matrix. Garnets can be found in a number of matrix's. Mostly Mica schist. Cool!

I plan to photograph my collection of odd rocks I have found over the last 15-20 years...the really neat or strange ones I will eventually post on here.

When you do, tell us about where/how you found them. It always good to hear the story behind a collection. And it usually tells us more about the rock too.

(I cant say for sure, but it may be that the garnets crystalized out and were later deformed to give them that "mashed" look. where does it come from?)
