Need a reasonable coil for compass challenger x100

I took a chance on a local x100 a guy was selling. It booted up, battery checked, etc but when I had time to look it over and try to set it up, it has no depth which is weird.

No matter which mode or sensitivity/filter settings, it will only respond when you scrub a target on the coil.

46 years of playing with detecting/detectors I’ve never seen this behavior.

Really wish Paul Palomo was still on here.

In five minutes he could probably tell me what’s going on.

He has an awesome collection of vintage compass.

Paul, if you’re out there, please call me 804-937-2453

Could be a bad coil , i have similar problems that was not the coil. The circuit boards can be really hard to locate faults on at times. I once replaced and tested every single component on a faulty detector circuit board with exact replacements and she was still faulty...bad connection maybe who knows...
