Trying to figure out what this piece of brass may be that I found while out on a short walk today. Stamped 51 and the one side of it looks like something may be broken off. Thanks

Very interesting. It looks like some type of scraper blade for a plane. A specialty tool for sure.
 
Brass scraper would be someone unique. Maybe take it to a machine shop or a carpenter who uses old methods.
