Need help understanding CTX terminology

New member
Hi Guys, I'm trying to understand exactly what some of the terminology in the CTX. I've looked at videos on how to turn them on and off and basically where they are located. I got all that...but where can I get an explanation describing what exactly some of these features do? Namely...Target Trace...I know how to turn it on, but seeing a smudgy trail in yellow or red, what does this tell you? You can plainly see 2 targets on the screen...one good target and one iron target, what does the smearing trail tell you. ALSO... Ferrous/Coin....I know this feature helps distinguished between a coin and trash , but How? Is there a video explaining some of these thing, or would someone just enlighten me....Thanks

Target Trace
Target Trace shows a real time animation of the many detections per second that
the detector uses to determine a Target’s ID. This is particularly useful when targets
are detected in close proximity, or in cluttered environments. In these instances, the
Target Trace display can be used to help identify individual targets.
Target Trace can be optionally displayed over the discrimination pattern, and shows
the FE-CO readings that are being produced during a detection. Color coding
signifies signal strength.

In short, yes Target Trace works good to identify multiple targets under the coil. Even with a single target it can be helpful. A good solid grouping indicates a good possibility of a good solid target, whereas a scattered pattern, or smear, usually indicates junk.

Ferrous-Coin
Ferrous-Coin improves the Target ID stability of coin type targets amongst
ferrous targets in areas with low mineralization. This setting uses advanced signal
processing techniques to minimize the blending of ferrous and coin type target
signals even when they are on top of each other. Both targets will be more
accurately identified and their cursors displayed simultaneously on the Detect
screen.

If both targets happen to be in an accepted areas of the screen, such as when
using a fully open/All Metals discrimination pattern, the Target ID number displayed
will be from the coin type object.

Ground-Coin
Ground-Coin improves Target ID stability of coin type targets in areas with high
ground mineralization. Ground with high mineralization would normally spread the
Target ID over a wide area of the detect screen, with the potential to misidentify
targets. This setting uses advanced signal processing techniques to minimize the
blending of ground and coin signals. The improvement in Target ID stability allows
you the best opportunity to correctly identify the good target.

Target trace builds up that red dot as you sweep over the target. The stronger the color of the dot, the higher the probability of a target under the coil. If the target trace barely shows up, it might be falsing, a tiny target, or something corroded or a piece of junk. The trail smears because the machine is painting those two targets at the same time.

Ferrous coin isnt for trash, its for places with alot of iron in the ground. It helps the machine read targets that arent made of iron that would normally be hard to see in other modes. Search youtube for some videos going over the modes and their uses. Also do some air tests with coins and nails to see how numbers change.

Whoa Southwind mega answer for the guy. Nicely done.

Southwind, Stever.....Thank you, Thank you, Thank you....I have a much better understanding of these now....You guys nailed it..Thats what I was looking for.I was have a hard time finding any info explaining these things like you did...Thanks again

If you have not printed out the 64 page manual from website I would suggest you do so. It helps clear up a lot of questions.

Foreign,...I have the manual,..but it doesn't explain what exactly the funtions do.....not like the guys above did.
