....Search Scan 650 Pulse metal detector. It is no longer in production but was supposed to be a good one. I was told that after Search Scan folded a fellow bought their stuff out and repackaged the detector as the "Barracuda" from Anchor detectors!! Does any of this make sense?? Throw in your five cents worth if you have any info on this one...thanks!!

It was a direct copy of the White's Surfmaster PI. Later it went over to Anchor Ele., and became the Barracuda.
The Baracuda was a real good improvment over the Surfmaster. Not only was it a better overall detector, it was also a lot more sensitive. They were a nice package, perhaps a bit ahead of their time.

...just a repacked 650; or were actual electronic changes made? Thank You.

Anchor Electronics made changes to the circuit, that's how they increased the sensitivity of the unit.

The Barracuda is my main machine, compared to it I call my CZ20 "the lollipop". It's very deep on gold and is the only pulse that gives you some idea of what the target is by giving a drawn out response to iron. Period. Jim Pugh makes 'em still. But in that he has gone on to better things service can be a problem. It helps if you have a good electronics person to help you with any repairs. It's not really a beginner machine in that it needs to be handled with the care that only experience can bring.

"is the only pulse that gives you some idea of what the target is by giving a drawn out response to iron".......
The Goldquest SS audio is extremely descriptive with a similar audio response to iron, so it's not limited to the Barracuda, which by all accounts, sounds to be a very good machine. I'd like to try one out some day.

I stand corrected. Certainly would like to own one of Eric's machines. Must have opened up the pic of the water unit a hundred times. When my Cuda finally dies, he can expect a call.

Clive,
So long as I didn't sound like I was on my soap-box !! <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin"> <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">

Frank,
I am at my work computer at the moment.
My home internet is down for a while as somebody dug up the fibre optic cable across the road from me. Should be fixed by the time I get home...hopefully.
I'll E-mail you when I get home. Your E-mail should be held by the server and will "flush" through when the cable is back up.
Tony.
