Need info on hunting on Daytona Beach

Brassmonkee

New member
Planning a trip to Daytona Beach in the middle of Feb. I was wondering what to expect ? Is the water ever clam enough to hunt and I know cars drive on the beach so is there also soft sand. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Brassmonkee, wetsuit for water its kind of cold but not too bad on good warme day in the 70s there is a beach cam you can checkout.Daytona Beach web cam.post when your going some of the guys and myself could meet you there.hh:detecting::usaa:

Right now the waters a bit cold so a nice thick wet suit is mandatory if you water hunt. I actually wear two suits. A full 6 mil titanium threaded suit bottom and a Body Glove 3 mil top. I stay nice and warm in waters even in the upper 50's. Any colder and I just don't go in.
The area that is driven on is between two towel lines. One line is towards the A-1-A highway, where cars are parked on the sand, then the area of driving and the next towel line is near the water. The beach I never found too much but in the water is where the action is. Or time yourself to low tide and hit the low water line.

I use a two valve snorkel and mask and hunt in water as deep as 6 feet and right up to the shore line. The waves depend on the tide, wind and weather. Some of my toughest hunting I've ever done was in 5 foot waves at Daytona. It was very profitable as I found lots of bling that was lost in those heavy seas by swimmers. Seems the heavy waves have a way of knocking the bling into the sea. But I had to contend with rip currents and it was tough going. There are a lot of folks with detectors at Daytona that will beat you to anything if you don't go the extra mile and work it when others just won't or can't. I hit the beach at sunrise and was in the water when everyone else was waiting for calmer seas. But the swimmers were right in there having fun getting the crap slapped out of them in those 5 foot waves that just kept rolling in.

Right now, there is not too much to find as it is not prime season yet. It's been a bit cold and not many are going to the beach. Spring break is the start of hunting season at Daytona. The weather is getting warmer and so is the water. Middle of March is when the action starts to pick up. March 7 to 18 is spring break this year.

Hello, Scoop Dog Thanks for the info. I do a little water hunting. Usually it's in the summer time, up here in Virginia near Va. Beach. Va. Beach is to rough for me. I should be down there the week between Feb. 15th and 21st. I'll be hunting in the aera near the Best Western Aku Tiki Inn. I don't know if that's a good part of beach or not. I will probably hunt the wet and dry sand. I checked the Daytona web cam, but it was to dark, I try again in the morning. I'll be watching it often. Thanks Again, Wayne

Hello, Finderskeepers, Thanks for the info. Sounds like your in to water hunting alot more than me. I'll probably hunt the wet and dry sand unless the water is warm and clam. I'll be there between Feb. 15th until the 21st. Thanks Again for any info you can share, Wayne
