Need info on the Minelab Quattro:shrug:

I have a chance to buy a brand new Quattro still in the box, never used. I am not familiar with this machine and would like some input on how it performs and what price range it should be in.I know that it has been discontinued and I have looked at some reviews on it, most people seemed pleased with it except for its recovery time. I would like to know the pros and cons for this machine and why they discontinued it so soon. I live in a rural area in the Midwest and hunt a lot of farm fields, would this be a good detector for that. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

"Kid", you may want to view these comments going back several years. Just using the search function on this website " minelab quattro reviews" ----http://www.findmall.com/search.php?3,search=Minelab+Quattro+reviews,author=,page=1,match_type=ALL,match_dates=0,match_forum=ALL,match_threads=0
Never used a quattro, but love my safari.

D[ends on the price...

hi kid, i bought a quattro new, i thought it was a ok coin and relic machine but yes it was real slow. i thought where this machine did shine was at the beach, very deep beach machine. i was rather upset when they dicontinued it felt like i had been sold an expensive proto type. felt like they should have at least named the safari something like the new quattro 2 but no. minelab just left me with a discontinued, slow as molasess machine that they didnt even want to associate the name to. so re selling a discontinued model sort of left me with a machine that i paid over $1000 and a few months later was worth? ?? as far as new in the box the quattro in my opinion was never worth the price. buying a new one now,,, well i might give 200 for it if i lived by the beach. otherwise there are so many better machines out there i feel you would do better with another choice. they dont discontinue something that was doing well and making people happy. if you read back there will allways be die hard fans. most of them could not admit that buying the quattro was a mistake. i can. lol i tried to be happy with it but looking back damn that thing was slow to a fault. just my 3 cents good luck to you out there. (its like they gave the quattro a brain and re named it the saffari) lol.

Nothing wrong with the Quattro, goes as deep as any FBS machine that Minelab makes. I think that the reason for the name change from Quattro to Safari is a lot of folks gave the Quattro a thumbs down because of speed. On the Safari to speed it up, all that Minelab did from my understanding is to change the start up settings. On the QUATTRO it starts up in LOW TRASH setting, on the SAFARI it starts in High Trash setting. I know that they also put the newer style Pro Coil on the Safari. I think that the Quattro set in High Trash mode is just as fast as the Safari, or any of the other FBS machines. As far as performance, set up the same, I don't think that there would by any difference between the two. If you can get the Quattro for a reasonable price it's a good deep machine. The biggest drawback of any of the FBS detectors is weight, they are all rather heavy compared to many other detectors out there, so it's best to get a "Swingy Thing" to use with it.

At the right price. I would want the Pro coil for it. The Safari is even slow but I have gotten used to it and mine is tuned to silver better than any Ive had. Heavy is a understatment. It is starting to give me a sholder problem but I cant put it down.

I am still using the quattro. I am old and also slow as molasses. If u are a guy that needs the latest and greatest then e-trac. If u know a bargain and want to spend the time to learn to use a great machine, get the Quattro. It is fun to master a machine that others have trouble with. Switch detectors with a good detectorest and he will still find more with the "inferior detector".
