Need pinpointer

silver seeker

New member
looking to get a good pinpointer for a reasonable price. I've never used one, but I think it will help speed up recovering coins without scratching them. Just want to know what you guys use and what you think of them.

I hunted 38 out of my 40 years of swinging without using one, but can't fathom not using one today. Saves time and now seldom scratch a coin. Tried a couple of cheap ones in recent years and as a result, continued to feel I didn't need one. Finally tried the Pro pin pointed by Garrett a couple of years ago and it makes all the difference in recovery. For the money, its probably the best one going. My 2 zinc's worth, anyway. HH jim tn

About once a month someone posts the same question you did, "what pinpoint should I get?" For the last couple of years the answer is always the same - get the Garrett Propointer. Spending money on something cheaper is a waste of your money and you might as well just light the money on fire. There is no doubt that the Propointer is the best pinpointer for the money bar none. If you want to read thousands of posts saying the same thing. Then use the search link up at the top of the page and you can read all the answers to the many times your question has been asked before.

However if you don't want to spend $130 on a propointer despite everyones answers then get the $15 harbor freight one, at least with that one you will only be wasting $15 instead or $50 or $60 on one of the more expensive cheap ones that don't work well. Whatever you do, don't buy one of those ones that KellyCo gives away with a machine purchase and claims is worth $150 they are the worst pieces of junk out there and are not worth the cost of shipping.

Diddo!!!!!.....hh rick in mi.

Garrett Pro Pinpointer the ONLY way to go, spend the money its worth it. painted a yellow candy cane strip around it makes it easy to see on the ground, forgot to pick it up once had a hard time location it.

That's funny shooter I to left mine on the ground once in the woods spent a half an hour looking for itp LOL

Same topic going on in the "metal detecting" forum.

Yep never leave home without Charlies handheld. Couldn't find any red tape but found some pink tape and now if I misplace it stands out and easy to find in the green grass..

Digger had a black handle so did the same with that....20 year old 3-1 knife thats an inch shorter from sharpening...black handle is a rubber cover I put over the wood handle.

If after deepies carry a 10 inch monster digger that moves a lot of dirt...yep has a red handle...

Garret Pro Pointer for 127.95 minelab has a new one out its good as a Garret but not better and sells for 169 the only thing better on the Minelab pin pointer is the light if you want to pay 40 dollars more for a better light go for it.

Can't imagine detecting now without a pin pointer.

I would say the only issue will be price point. That said, if finances will not allow higher priced ..Then get a cheaper one..it too will work well with just a little variance in depth.

Good detector
Good pin pointer
Good digger ............... all equal a good day of detecting.

A big plus for detecting is accessory coils ......... But not a absolute must....

I use both the Garrett Pro Pointer and the cheap one given with the bundle from KellyCo. I pinpoint the target with my F70 then find the target with the propointer. Once I get close to the target I change to el cheapo to zero in. The cheap pinpointer won't respond until you almost touch the target, so you know exactly where it is. I have found many coins, rings and of course, trash using this method.

Man, once you use one you will never be without a pin-pointer again. Get the Garrett Pro-Pointer. I tried a Detector Pro but it was too long and bulky for me.

Garrett Pro-Pointer

Then by all means Charlie G's pinpointer is just the ticket. But since this the FISHER F series forum, then the Sunray FX in-line pinpointer is superior. Great range/depth, uses your detector's power (no separate batteries), Uses your detector's settings, AND since its attached to your detector, YOU WONT LOSE IT!!
