Need some help with my E-Trac ...

Willee - Texas

Well-known member
I have an E-Trac with a Sun Ray 12" coil on it.
Also have a 10 x 12 SEF coil.
Other than running the sensitivity to the limit what settings would get me Maxium depth?

I buried a square style pulltab 9" in my backyard three years ago and The E-Trac will not detect it.
I have tried all I know and it just wont do it.
The Tesoro LOBO ST I have detects that pulltab solid.
The Tesoro Golden (stock coil) will detect it but it is not a solid hit like the LOBO ST.
If no other detector could detect that tab then I would think it was too deep in this type soil and give up trying.
I get the feeling it must be something I am not setting correctly on the detector.

I also have a White's V3 (stock coil) that can not detect that tab either.

Any ideas from you experienced E-Trac users?

Hi,
We are going to need more info. What mode is it in,What settings like trash and ground as well as fast and deep that type of thing. If you click over to a wide open screen does it hit?

Well ... one of the replies got me thinking about discrimination.
I was running the LOBO ST with no discrimination cause the area where the tab is buried is clear of all trash and I wanted max depth and sensitivity.

Hello Mr. Murphy ... (Murphy's law)

Somehow a very small lock washer (about a #4) got right on that spot just under the grass and on top of the soil.
Now the larger coils on the E-Trac and the V3 could not detect that small ferrous washer.
The Tesoro LOBO ST running with no discrimination saw it as a very valid target as it was designed as a gold detector and detects small things.

So ... mystery solved.
Now ... none of my detectors will detect that pull tab.
Guess I need to dig it up and replace it with a quarter.

Thanks to everyone that responded with suggestions and I apologize for all the fuss.

No No!! leave it there! When you find the right settings for your area and start hitting it you will know your settings are maxed out for you. IMO Terry

I went out and burried one at a full 9" in good wet soil and it would get it in auto 24 with ease in factory coin mode and with an open screen it would hit it with the coil 3" in the air.The 12x10 sef hit it and the pro coil had power to spare. The 15x12 was not as good except in all metal and would hit at 4" off ground.Soil was completely clean and in a open hay field over 100 yards from any power lines.I was quite impressed and especially with the pro coils performance,Ray.
PS I burried it in a 4" square hole and put the intact square plug in place with very little soil disturbance.
