Need some help with Settings on X-Terra 705

Ok,
Here is the situation. I got the 6" Double-D 18.75kHz coil. However, due to being a novice I am having a settings problem. I am simply setting it to hot, I guess. I am getting so many signals it is over powering all tones. I am over loading my senses. I am not real familiar with GB offsetting. When should I adjust it? I have attempted to use the Target Stabilize function and it seems to not help. When should I use this function? I try to hunt on a daily basis to increase my knowledge. Seems like the first day the DD coil was great. I am going to factory reset all the settings. Maybe I changed something and I am missing it. I am in such a frustrating pickle. Or should I switch back to the 9" MF Concentric? The GB #s are in the middle 20s up to the mid 60s depending on where I am at. I don't think I am having a high mineralization problem. Or do I? I am asking for guidance from all but would also appreciate any local advise in my area. I am in the Ingleside / Aransas Pass / Corpus Christi , Texas area. I NEED a MDing Buddy!!! LOL! Someone that can give me some much needed direction. Dang it! I am a frustrated detectorist.

Frustrated in Texas Gulf Coast,
Jasin

My 705 is noisy but I have found that GB is being a problem. Do it in all metal and make sure there is nothing under the coil. I have had to move around to find a good area to GB in. Also sens can be cut back. It does help to go by the turn on procedture on the 705 Field Guide. Do you have one?

I know this may seem obvious but make sure you have a good connection. Line it up, push it all the way in and tighten the threaded part. If that don't help, put your old coil back on. If it is stable, the new coil might be the problem.

I know that going from my Fisher F2 to the 705 I experienced a LOT more noise... I thought it was my settings, but I found that it really WAS a bunch of tiny tiny iron pieces all over the area I was detecting. My F2 couldn't see them, but the 705 picked them right up. They were so small I couldn't find them many times that I dug without having a magnet with me to rummage through the soil. When I don't like the noise I just cut my Sensitivity back down around the default (16) or lower. Most of the time I hunt with it in the upper 20's though. After a while if you go slow you can tune your ear to all that noise.

Hay Jason, don't get frustrated. Just as soon as Randy see your post he will help you resolve your problem. You can count on that. HH TomB

Thanks All,
Think I just needed some encouragement to settle down a little. GBing in All Metal Mode seemed to help. Thanks for that Clad2Hunt. Checked connection to make sure it was secure.
Thanks all again,
Jasin

I see your on the Texas coast. Just a thought, as i just encountered this problem on a Florida beach this week. If your detecting in wet beach sand you need to set your 705 to beach mode. I was fine in the dry sand and when i hit the wet areas at the surf my machine went crazy....

Looks like you've already received some good advice. But the first thing I do at a site is set the Noise Cancel Channel. Next I make sure my Volume is adjusted to a level that I like (mine is at Max). With the ground phase settings from the mid-20's to mid 60's, it appears that your soil varies quite a bit. My advice would be to run in Tracking mode, to maintain an accurate ground balance. If you are on the beach, use Beach Tracking as it will update faster. And, if you are on the beach, hunt parallel to the water edge and hunt the wet sand separately from the dry sand. This will keep your X-TERRA running more stable. If while in Tracking or Beach, and it is still "hot", then we know it isn't due to an improper GB setting. Next step would be to lower your sensitivity a click at a time, until it settles down. If Tracking and a lower sensitivity doesn't take care of it, you may have a problem with the coil. If your detector is not set properly, the TID stabilize won't calm it down. It is simply there to help keep the TID numbers from jumping around after you hit a target. I view the TID Stability as being more of an averaging of the TID numbers, compared to the "on the fly" normal TID. It really doesn't effect the operation of the detector. Just the information displayed on the screen. My last bit of advice would be to slow down your sweep speed. Using the 6-inch DD coil, I'd say no faster than 2 - 2.5 seconds per complete sweep (left to right), with an overlap of at least 1/3 the width of the little DD coil. Give these a shot and let us know what you find. HH Randy

Wizzo; Digger excellent tips. I will definitely give yours and all suggestions a try.
Thanks again all...will report back,
Jasin

Ditto to what Digger says about Tracking.
I run this 90% of the time on land or beach...no GB worries for me.
those 6' ddHF coils are great but go slow with it in the trashy areas
Best of luck
