Need Some Help

I have had two Explorer XS's and two Ex 11's over the last seven years. I do remember my first XS having a square cut upper rod. I was digging through my excess odds and ends and I came across an Explorer upper rod. The end where it goes into the control box is square cut with a ridge on one side. Can anyone tell me what Explorer this rod belongs to? I sort of remember putting this rod away when I got a Sunray probe, but for the life of me, I can't remember if it belongs to the XS or EX 11. Thanks. R.L.

RLOH----That would be an XS upper rod.--The ridge on it was Minelabs attempt to keep it from slipping out of the control box camlock (when you were detecting)---I think the earlier ones for the XS didn't have that ridge.--So there was upper rods both with & without that dimple.--On mine, even with that dimple, it would work it's way out of the camlock when I was detecting.---I made a mark with a pencil so I could tell when that was happening, then I would loosen the camlock and shove the upper rod back up in there.---My final attempt at a remedy (believe it or not), was a kids balloon put over the end of that upper rod a couple of inches then shoveing it in place & closeing the camlock.--For me, that cured the problem better than anything else---a kids balloon. It didn't work its way out after that.-----Del

Early XS units had problems with the rod slipping so later models had a nipple which coincided with the camlock connector to help prevent slipping. No nipple its an early XS...I believe if you had an early XS and sent the rod in they would add the nipple..Many added a strip of tape to early XS units which helped in slippage...Probably water over the dam now as the original XS is about 8 years old...
