need some info on pinpointer

hi i just bought a new explorer II and im looking at a pocket uniprobe or a X1 target probe witch one will work the best i want the best set up because i spent a lot of money on this work horse

My experienced opinon is that the Uniprobe is your best option. I have used both the Uniprobe and the Pocket Uniprobe.

They are best excellent units ! HOWEVER, if you are using headphones, and you go to use the Pocket Uniprobe, you have to pull the headphones you are using off of your ears to hear the speaker on the Pocket UP.

When you are using the Uniprobe, that has the headphones integrated right into the system, all you do is flip a switch on the headphones and you are using your probe. Flip the switch again and you are back using your detector.

No brainer in my opinion, UNIPROBE with the integrated headphones wins, hands down!

I have them on my website:

Id defenatly go with the Sunray X1 probe!!! I havnt used any of the others, but i really cant see how there any better cuz to me the X1 is as good as it gets right now. Its got target id, gets about 3" of depth, and its just an all around great pinpointer. And the best thing is is hooks up to ur Explorer so u dont have to carry anything around u just flip a switch back and forth. Plus its cheaper than the pocket probes. Id would never hunt without one now after using one, its a nessesity for me. Hope that helped!

I agree with Tristan, go for the X-1 probe, not only will it penetrate deeper than the uniprobe but it will also work with your detectors screen, meaning that it will ID things more accurately since it's sort of a 1" searchcoil. You don't have to take your headphones off to hear it, it will also work with your detectors sounds, you can use it for precise pinpointing of shallow targets in the 0"-3"+ range, you can use it for areas so tight even a 5" searchcoil couldn't go in/through. And when you're done using it you just snap it in your upper shaft and flip a switch and you're good to go using your detector.

The X-1 can also help your detector learn targets better when making a custom screen since it's also a 1" coil, and it's more precise at ID'ing targets than the, let's say 10.5" searchcoil.

The X-1 is a winner, being waterproof the probe is very versatile. The X-1 is also cheaper @ $180.

You can ask anyone here and they'll tell you the X-1 is an invaluable tool for them.

About the Pocket UniProbe, it looks to be a great probe, don't get me wrong, but the X-1 probe was made specifically for the Explorer detectors so it will adapt better to your needs while using an Explorer, now the Uniprobe can be turned into a pulse detector which is great if you're planning to do beachcombing or wading IF you live close to a lake, river or saltwater beach and you plan to hunt it/them, in the meantime I'd say you stick to the X-1.

Hope this helps.

I have the Uniprobe with the built in headphones and also the X1 probe of SunRays. Both of these are excellent probe and find none that are better, but the SunRay Probe are my favorite to use if one is made for the detector I am using. This is where the Uniprobe is used on any detector that SunRay don't make a probe for that I use like my Tesoros.
Now the Uniprobe may have a little more depth and the probe itself is smaller and easy to use, but being it is a all metal probe as it will see anything metal it makes it tougher to use when you are in nails infested areas where a disc probe like the X1 works so good. I also find that when I have the Explorer on some times the Uniprobe would not settle down until I turned off the Explorer or do a noise cancel on the Explorer with the Uniprobe on so it pick a different channel.
With the X1 I can use it to help learn to accept or reject certain targets too as it make it easier to do with the X1 probe than with the coil.
Like I say I have them both and they are the best there is, but for the Explorer I feel you will like the X1 better.

Both are Great items but go with the X-1 Probe as it is made for that detector. Hope this will help you some. HH, Ron@ Dixie Ms. 1-888-467-4332

Sunray Pinpointers for several units and although a bit pricey would be tough to find one better..Some prefer the handheld ones and most of them lack much more than inch of depth on a dime..Not a pinpoint guy myself but would recommend the Sunray without hesitation.

i used both for a long time and with test the probe beat the sun rays x1 by 2/12 to 3 inches depending on the coin size. and bigger size objects such as a ox knob or old buckle by 4 inchs.and please don't get me wrong on this ralph at sunray makes outstanding products. and it's like apples and ornges but this is a pi to a common detector that's why. the biggest down fall for me on the x1 was i all ways forgot to click the switch back after useing and the extar weight on a already heavy detector. hh don

Forgetting to switch from probe to coil and viceversa is rare; Also I don't know why most people say the Explorer II is heavy, it weights more or less 4lbs and the weight of the X-1 probe is really minimal so the 'extra' weight is not an issue since the whole package is lightweight. Maybe the X-1 won't go as deep as the pocket probe, but it is certainly more versatile than the pocket probe, I believe 3"-4" is perfect for a probe, more than that could get you confused at some point on where is the target located.

I don't know this seems a no brainer to me but theres a rusty nail near about half the coins I dig. Without the X1's target ID theres no question I would have chased many a nail around the hole.

For those who don't like the added weight (I'm in the Explorer is a heavy beast camp) for $2 you can install a 5 pin connector and carry the probe in your pouch and just plug it in when you need it.
