Need your help PI In Hawaii

I just sold a forum member a headhunter Pulse Pi. He lives in Hawaii. While testing some samples on his lawn he failed to detect a small gold ring and quarter. Can someone who has been to Hawaii tell me the type of soil that's there? The HH PI has no ground balance on it and this may be the problem. The detector worked perfect here on the east coast. Thanks

Hello, I would recommend a Goldscan 5, or Whites TDI. I have the same problem in the Canary Islands, to be of volcanic origin.

Greetings.

PS: excuse my bad English

Hi George,

Tough magnetic volcanic soil, but that should not stop a PI from hitting a quarter unless he has too much expectation and is burying it too deep. I have run Surf PI, Surf PI Pro, Infinium, and TDI there with no problems. But depth will be impacted.

So the question is how deep is the quarter? We can forget ring as not a standard target.

I agree. My testing of the Goldscan 5 led to the development of the TDI.

I know if your not familiar with the controls you can also tune out gold and larger coins. If further info is needed I will respond . Thanks guys

I am the member that bought the Headhunter from George, I tried out the detector on a grass lawn using a quarter and 9 gram gold ring laying on top of the grass (not buried). I set the volume on high, tune with a barely audible threshold, and tried the frequency/pulse delay slowly through it's range from low to high, I get a little feedback and background noise on the swings but no beeps at all when passing over the targets. I also tried air testing with coil on ground and passing the items above the coil with the same results. I brought out my White's PI Pro and got solid hits on both the quarter and ring testing in the same location. I'm going to try out the Headhunter at a local beach this weekend to see if I can pick up any targets, will post back with results.

Thanks, Mike.

Can't figure this out. Worked perfect. Tested here.Let us know please. Thanks

Mike what happens when you air test with the coil off the ground?? This may tell you what is the cause. Sounds like the ground not the detector may be the culprit. salt water sand is different. Please respond to an air test off the ground. Thanks

possibly damaged internally in shipping???
chuck.

The problem turned out to be 1 of the 2 wires from the coil to the circuit board had a break inside of the ear cup. A local detecting guru and forum member "TerryinHawaii" got it working again with his soldering/electrical skills, thanks Terry and thanks to those who replied to this thread. A quick check on the lawn resulted in a 9 gram gold ring air testing at 13 inches.:)

Mike.

Thanks Terry and Mike for letting me and others know.
