Hi guys, for those of you using the Sovereigns, which coil do you recommend for beach hunting ? I have a coinsearch 8”, S-8 Sunray, S-5 Sunray and the 10” Stock for the Gt. I just want more depth and coverage. Thanks for any info. HH Chris

I've been running a Sovereign Elite for the last 14+ years. For beach hunting, I have 12x10 & 15x12 SEF Butterfly coils. The 15x12 is great if you're hunting the dry, uber deep and wide coverage, but on the wet & shallow water, you get to a point where a coil gets too large and starts getting "blowback" from the mineralization. Kinda like trying to run high beams in fog, too much. The 12x10 IMHO, is the perfect size coil for beach hunting, and I haven't taken it off my Sov for probably over 12+ years. It gets serious depth, so deep that you won't want to dig that far down, it's a bit smaller than the 15x12 so you can run sensitivity up higher on the wet & shallow water, it's easier to control in water, and at 12", it gives great coverage. Overall, the Detech 12x10 SEF Butterfly is my sweet spot perfect coil.

Man that's a big sand sifter.

Have you tried the Nel Snake 3×6" ?
Or the Nel Sharp 5" round coils ?
I put the Snake on my GT.
Impressive little coil.
I believe it would be excellent for earrings.
And probably be very good in a nail infested site.
I became severely disabled shortly after getting a few new coils for the GT.
Haven't been able to really put it thru a good workout.
There also quite inexpensive.

Probably looks bigger in the pic than it really is. It's an aluminum RTG with SS lip, 6" diameter, 11" long. I've been using that same scoop for the last 14 years, never any problems and has held up well. The welds are extremely robust.

I haven't tried any of the Nel coils. In addition to my 12x10 & 15x12 SEF Butterfly coils, I also have the original 10" Tornado coil that came with the Sovereign, and I had also bought a Sunray 5" shortly after getting the Sov. I used the 10" coil up until I got the SEF coils, haven't used the 10" in over 12 years. The 5" Sunray I bought to use as a "sniper" coil when coinshooting around bushes, trees, etc., at old houses and buildings, but never used it. I pulled it out the other day and the coil wire is still curled up the way it was when I got it, lol.

Now that I have a Dual Field PI, I'll be using that more on wet sand and shallow salt water, since it's waterproof and PI's go deeper than SMF's in saltwater. But I'll use my Sov first, as it has auto iron rejection built in. That way, if there's a lot of iron present, I'll continue using the Sovereign. If not a lot or no iron present, I'll go back in the with Dual Field, as PI's are all-metal, all the time, lol.

But for coinshooting land permissions, I'll use my X-Terra Elite since it has target depth and pinpointing, which IMO is more important when hunting on someone's land, need to be more selective and accurate so I don't turn their land into a minefield. On the beach, I have unlimited latitude for digging, so pinpointing "close enough" does the job & I just keep digging until I find the target. Easy to refill holes with sand, and when hunting on wet sand, the incoming tide totally smooths out my filled hole and nobody even knows I dug there, lol.

I'm not a relic hunter, but if I was relic hunting or searching for coins/caches in a farmer's field or something similar, I'd use my Sovereign with 15x12 SEF coil.
