Too much snow, so I took the GTI 2500 out to shoot birds.

looks like Garrett should make some miniature detectors for ths birds. Garrett would make a killing! How do you get the birds to come so close? Do you feed them everyday?

You have to put salt on their tails ....No, just kidding. You bait the places you want them to land on with sunflower seeds, then shoot like crazy with your camera, as they only land for a short moment.

Great imagination. I love photography and nature. My good camera died 2 weeks ago while canoing with my father in law. I go through cameras. My wife is always getting on my case about the camera in the out door environments. I went through a couple of Canon AE-1's.
I know there are scrub jay in the western US. I don't know how far north their range is. They are a very friendly bird. I showed my wife's aunt where some jay's hung out. I told her they will jump out of the brush and land on her. They did. She said if I hadn't warned her, It would have sacred the hell out of her.[attachment 40970 auntnetie.jpg]

My bird lives on my shoulder. Fortunately he is potty trained. You know that pirate with the parrot on his shoulder. You don't want to see his back side.[attachment 40972 johnwtbird.jpg]

We don't have any scrub jays this far north. We have lots of blue jays, crows and ravens. I too love nature. We have had our share of birds. had an amazon parrot for a short while, but he was so mischievous when we went out, we gave him away. He was such an angel while we were home, and if we went out, he would really chew up our wooden furniture. We also had several cockatiels, but I always got to clean the cages, and my kids really weren't giving them much attention, so I gave them to the veterans hospital, where I was working at the time. The birds are so tame in the area that I took these photos. When our kids were small, we used to come through here in the winter months to hand feed them. Some of the best things in life cost nothing and remain as great memories.

There was the Birdman of Alcatraz, now we have the Birdman of Edmonton. You ought to send those in to one of the treasure mags John. Make a great photo spread.

You're so right John. The best things in life are free. Somewhere I have some old pics of a bunch of deer ( taken in Northern Arizona way back in the boonies ) surrounding my car and poking their heads in the window getting real friendly ( like licking me on the kisser ). Will see if I can find them.

I live in Salem Oregon and I feed the Scrub Jays that look exactly like those, mine have orange, green, black bands on their legs. Some are so demanding they land on my head if I have food and don't share.
