Never cheated on my wife but I'm flirting with getting a Comparde or Silver uMAX

Yep, been hunting since 2002. Owned 4 different detectors all made by the same Co. here in the USA. Still have & hunt 3 of them. Pretty good to me too. But my eye has been wondering lately. And just for a fling might want to try one of these babes out. I was leaning toward the Comparde, but I fear I'd be digging a lot more trash than with the Silver uMax. Only experance with the Tesoro's is with some pretty good videos on utube. So whata guys think? Stay at home or draw a card.

Like most Tesoro's, you can dig as much or as little trash as you want to with the Compadre.
The disc range is so razor sharp on mine it is just silly.
A little finer then on my Vaq, in my opinion.

Both are Coin shooters supreme, and silver and gold, (including chains), are in your future if you decide to get either one...but especially that Compadre.
Learn the Tesoro language and you will find that beep and dig is not exactly the way these units work in real life once you get the hang of hunting with them.

I myself would go for the Silver Umax, I had one once. At first it looked like some cheap detector and wasn't having any part of it. I even tried to sell it. So one day I thought I would give this junk machine a try and then I could for sure be right. Well I have never been more wrong. I was finding more silver with it than my other machines, I was finding silver in places that I had already hunted, what I thought was clean. I fell in love with it, used it more than my other machines. But I had to give the Silver Umax back to the owner, it was a trade deal and the deal fell through. If I ever had the chance to find one again with a good price I would snatch it up as fast as I could. I think that you wouldn't go wrong buying a Silver Umax I know you would fall in love with it once you understood it and learned it. I hope to hear about your finds with it if you decide to get one. I hope this helps you make up your mind on getting one. Good luck to you with the big hunt.

You can do well and have a lot of fun with either. The Compadre is a marvel considering its price and simplicity. However, IMHO there's a lot to be said for the fact that you can change coils on the Silver. Installing the 5.75" coil would make the Silver very similar to the Compadre, yet still have the versatility of the larger coils as well. Of course, over time you could watch the forum and Ebay listings and pickup either detector used and eventually have both. I've picked up a whole stable of used detectors this way and been fortunate that I've had no serious problems and my cash out lay has been quite reasonable for what I've accumulated.

Don't think you could go wrong with ANY Tesoro. I've never owned a Umax, but I love my Compadre it really is awesome on small jewelry. It's sensitive to very small gold, in fact it will pick up small a gold earring that my Fisher F2 (about $50 more) doesn't see even when it is touching the coil. The pinpointing is really sharp dut to the 5.75" coil. I only wish that I could turn sensitivity down sometimes, when in areas of interference due to nearby powerlines. In these areas I just pull out the Vaquero! Good luck with your new machine whichever you decide to buy! Scott. HH

Get both!:)

I have both but lately have favored my Silver, I tired the compadre the other day after a month straight on the Silver and did well still, for some reason(probably the newness of it) I favor the Silver still, but I am determined to never let my compadre go. For smaller search areas it is the greatest. Im with Tabman, get both they are so affordable you have nothing to lose and almost guaranteed to pay for itself quickly.

I owned both and both are very good detectors.

Unless you absolutely must have a larger coil, I would go with the Compadre.

Small coil works great, gets good depth, and is more sensitive to gold jewlery than the Silver.

I have both and after what I did, I couldn't get rid of either. I installed a "tab check" switch on my Silver for trashy areas-sort of a "mini-Tejon"- and in some places it's awesome. Of course I can't sell it now-the warranty's void. But after about 8 years, it's still just like new. For non-trashy or mild trash areas-it's the Compadre-without question. I can set it to just reject or break up on an iron nail and I've hit stuff 6-7" on low disc. So, as Tabman said-get both!

Oh, abt a yr. ago, you tipped me off to the Sniper Coil for the Ace 250. [Hope your the same Slingshot] Well anyway it worked out great. Now with the responce' I've got, I think I'm going with the Comparde- mainly because of the 5.75 coil. Just wondering how you think it stacks up to the Ace250?

Don't have a 250, but I do hunt with a Compadre, Vaq and an F2.
Here are just a few of my finds with the Compadre, and I want you to notice the chains in this pic, especially the very small and thin ones.
My Vaq with a sniper coil might have been able to pick these up, probably my F2, also, but I can tell you the Compadre sounded off loud and clear on every one just like it was a shallow coin.
Chains are very hard to pick up for most detectors, the real thin ones with tiny clasps like the 14k gold one on the top left most of all.

NOT for the Compadre, however.

Yeah. It's awesome in trash. I can sum up the Compadre in one word-THOROUGH. Or maybe GOLD! What the sniper is in trash, the Compadre is on Gold. According to where you set the discrimination, you can find all the way from a metal ball on a ballpoint pen refill to the tiniest gold chain.. Another word might be UNBELIEVABLE.

HI REVIER !

After all your praise for the Compadre, I don't understand "NOT for the Compadre, however."

If you are a jewelry hunter, the Compadre offers superior performance at a bargain basement price.
