Never get a talking bird....

Pete in MI

New member
we have an African Grey and he is such a nice bird and has a lot of words he has learned in his vocabulary. He makes us laugh. Now he makes us want to let him loose.

He is like a 3 year old and picks up words from us and others, from the TV, movies we watch, etc. One night we were watching the game show Lingo and he yelled out LINGO! He has a cough sound he makes now and sounds like a real cough..even extends it and we say Burkey have a nasty cough and he coughs some more and laughs. He rings the phone, says Hello then talks to imaginary people and says BYE BYE then gives the hang up beep. When I drink coffee or pop he is right on the spot to give the GLUG GLUG GLUG sound of me swallowing. He is amazing and smart.

He loves says "Dad gotta go to work?" and so much more. He does do an imitation of a guinea pig that is annoying and if we don't say anything he usually passes on to some other talking.

A show of hands. How many have seen Night at the Museum with Robin Williams and Ben Stiller? Remember the scenes with the monkeys??

We now have our own 'monkey' screaming at the top of its lungs in the same room and it has feathers ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! Even worse is when Sherry is answering the phone for business and he is screaming that monkey scream. We can NEVER watch that movie again no matter how much we enjoyed it.

So be warned if ya want to get a talking bird...oh yeah we have other birds that talk too...and they mimic him sometimes.

I once had a cockatiel that you could teach it anything. I taught it the whole song to Mayberry etc. But a door had a real bad loud squeek and it picked up on that and did it all day. Talk about super annoying! I will pray for your bird that it gets smitten with throat cancer. O.K. just kidding.

Try Duck tape! Not Duct tape, duck tape is for the birds!
