I am new today on this forum,I am using a Garrett Ace 250 and am wanting to upgrade my detector.I do not know very much about Fisher, except what I read, have not found many people who use them.My question is: Is the F5 a good machine and is it a upgrade from the ace 250,if not what fisher is?thanks.

Welcome to the forum.
All I can say is I have I have been reading a lot of good threads on the F5. And as you can see from my list of detectors I like Fishers.

Here is a link for you that you might like; not familiar with the Ace 250, and don't know what you like to hunt for, and in what conditions, so I can't comment on whether the F5 is "better." However, the link has alot of info on the F5 features, which may be helpful. http://detectorstuff.com/2009/05/20/fisher-f5-long-review-features-breakdown/

Also, Mike Hillis on this forum is somewhat of an expert on the F5. It is his favorite detector, and he has posted a TON of info about the F5. Do a search on his username, and read some of his stuff, and I think you'll have a great starting point for info on the F5.

If you give a few more details about what you hunt, under what soil conditions, what features you want in a detector, and what functionality you are trying to "upgrade" with respect to your 250, others may be able to chime in with help.

I just hunt, nothing special, coins jewelry, relics, ground around here is very neutral just need a good descent kinda all around machine not too complicated would spend up to $600

Hello nickle!
As others have said Mike Hills is the man to listen to on the F5. I can help too if you need anything. I can make you a really good deal on one if you decide to go that route. Its a very good machine! It loves nickles!...lol

I used a 250 and went to the FisherF4, it performed well, with more tweakable controls and options other than the loud ring of the 250. From there went to the f70 and the LTD. Have heard a lot of good things about the F5 but never used one. Good Luck, CO

For what it's worth I did alot of reading and asking advice on the forums before I bought my F5.
I was first sold on the ACE 250 but the more I learned Fisher sold me for my price range on there product.
I have no complaints yet!

I've been using Fisher Detectors for ove 35 years, and found them too be among the best. I have tried other brands from time to time. It's like anything else you have learn your detector and how to use it and set it right.
I have and use the Fisher cz6a, cz7, 1280, f75 and the( great F5 FOR ALL MY PARK HUNTING, SCHOOL YARDS.) The others I use for beach hunting, but the f5 preforms well on the beach salt water and fresh water.
Remember settings are what you need to learn. Most all top of the line detectors $350 and up preform well for what they were intended for. SO BOTTOM LINE IS WHERE YOU WANT TO USE IT AND WHAT KIND OF DETECTING YOU WANT TO DO.

I had a though and below is a link that you can go there and select your 250 and do a line by line comparison to just about any detector. I am not suggesting you buy from them but once you figure out what detector you want I would suggest you contact one or more of the forum sponsors and give them a chance to work you up a good deal. These guys will work with you one on one.
