Never used White's 4x6" Eclipse Shooter DD Search Coil

I am thinking about buying this coil and need some input on it. I have a park that I know has been hunted before, in some areas it is heavy trash so bad that you get targets no matter where I move my stock coil. The vdi and graph is all over the screen. I know dig them all, but the area would look like a plowed field, dont want to do that in a park. This place has had a yearly picnic with a carnavile for at least 60 years that I remember. I hunted there yesterday and found nothing but tab tops in the not so trashy areas, so I know its been cherry picked rather well. Im thinking there may be silver in the trashy areas and these are by the food and drink stands. I need some advice on V3i settings and if the 4x6 coil would help.

Howdy Rt66--

The 4X6 coil might be just what you are looking for to hunt that site (and others). Most of my detecting is at vacant lots / old home sites that can be VERY trashy. The 4X6 offers excellent target separation and surprisingly good depth for a coil that size. As far as settings, Recovery Delay between 40 and 50 would probably be a good start. In extreme trash I usually use 10 or 12.5 Filters and I sometimes use Bottle Cap Reject and Correlate. The sensitivity settings? Only you can determine which are best. If you do purchase a 4X6, don't hesitate to re-hunt your old prime sites that you thought were hunted out. You may be surprised at what you have missed. Best of luck and...

I like squirrels settings. Don't be afraid to drop down to 30 to 35 on the RD. You will find in heavy trash lower RX can be better. This keeps the coil footprint smaller. Separation is more important than depth in your situation.

Hi Blind Squirrel,

Thanks for the info. Im going to order it and I do have other places I need to go back to. Would it help to run in Coin, I have been running in Coin and Jewelry.

Thanks

Hi Rob

Thanks, Have another question, is there any differences between Coin and Coin and Jewelry besides the disc of the lower vdi numbers. If not Ill stay in coin and Jewelry and do the disc myself.

C/J runs a higher sensitivity, that's about all except as you stated the discrimination. Unless you want only US coins go with C/J.

I love the 4x6 coil. I especially like the 4x6 next to a cyclone fence. Normally you can't get close but with the 4x6 you can scoop up all the silver everyone left behind. Go get you some!

I bought a 4X6 and it is about all I hunt with these days. I could not do the stock settings myself and I sold the stock coil right off. Hated it. I accept all and set the Tone to 0 on the Negative numbers. I run from about +8 to +21 cut out everything until +52 then accept all the way to +93. This gets almost all the coins. Look for a steady VDI number under 19 and it is most likely a ring. A word of caution running Correlate will make your VDI numbers just a little higher than normal. I run Consistency on 25 and Best Data. I rarely dig junk now that I have gotten used to the Machine. Do not run your sensativity real high. It just does not work all that well on the V3i. If you don't have one you need to buy a Sunray to go on your V3i. It is great for me.

Hi daddyflea,

Thanks for fhe info, I will certainly try those settings out. I have a Sunray that is a few years old. I used it on the DFX for awhile and then took it off because of the weight. I may try it again with the V3i and 4x6. Im using the TRX right now even though it is hard for me to hear it. I am considering removing the membrane but it is located right above the button and I have noticed dirt likes to rest there. If the membrane is gone Im sure the dirt will be inside.

Happy Hunting

By all means put that Sunray on the V3i. You can reassign the V3i forward position on the Switch which will allow you to use the Sunray in Discriminate mode which gives good depth or flip the switch forward to go into all metal pin point mode for the Sunray. This will not affect the Rear switch position which will also give you a pin point. I got at least 4 inches depth in all metal and really liked pin pointing at times in Discriminate.
