New $1 Coins

Well I think they may be doomed to failure :( It seems the Banking Industry for some reason doesn't have to have anything to do with the new $1 coin. I went to my bank (TDBankNorth) to purcahse $20 worth of them as some of you did last week at your own banks. I was told that a Memo had come down from TD BankNorth's headquarters that they would not be dealing with the new $1 coins. I was under the impression that banks had to handle any Legal US Currency but that doesn't seem to be the case with this new coin. Go figure.

I truly believe that only way a $1 coin is going to catch on is if the Fed quits printing $1 paper. I don't know if they just haven't considered that or what?
 
That and they need to make it a different size than a Quarter. The $1 doallar coins that they have produced so far have been to close to the size of the quarter. I thnk the Canadian Govt did it the best! Our Mint could learn a lesson from them! JMHO

and create a more appealing coin, Walking liberty comes to mind, as does the Merc....Two Beautiful coins in my opinion...A MODERN ART version of George Washington does not...Also, why stop at a dollar? Why not $2, $2.50, $5, $10, $20???...I really haven't given it much thought but with just a little imagination I believe they could really come up with a winner...OK here's one...How about 2 Ronald Reagans on the front, one small one in a cowbow hat & a larger portrait type for the face & on the back have topo relief of the U.S. with two eagles locking talons on a rattlesnake with the moon & some stars thrown in....Oh yeah & a satelite Got to have that for the starwars thing..:blink:..TT
 
The Fed needs to get a clue and just get rid of the dollar coin and spend the money on non counterfeit currency like Australia which uses plastic so the currency lasts ten times longer than our own.
 
If they would get rid of paper dollars everyone would start using the coin dollars and we would find more of them while MDing. Coins have a longer life than paper.
