New boy on the beach

Hi All,

I am new to this forum but have been reading the posts with interest over the last few weeks. I decided to get a Quattro for Christmas and went out yesterday for a few hours - It is not as easy as it sounds and I can see it is going to take a bit of getting used to! As you may have guessed, I am based in Bermuda and will do most of my detecting on the beaches - Any tips or tricks that you can share with me? Secondly, I am having trouble getting repeatable signals, should you always get this before you start to dig? Your feedback is welcome!

Welcome aboard bermudaboy! I know how you feel about the repeatable signals, but don't panic. I had the same thing happen to me recently, I think, because I hadn't used my detector for a long time and I was out of touch. I'm still in the re-learning, practice mode right now, but I honestly think you made a great choice. Just a couple of things you might think about. First of all, make sure you have the book Mastering the Quatro, by Andy Sabisch. It's the bible on this detector, as far as I'm concerned. The second thing, that most new users experience is a WHOLE BUNCH, of signals, driving them nuts, and they're hard to sort out. Take it slow and easy, and if it's a very trashy area, you might look into a smaller coil to separate the trash. As far as the repeatable signal thing goes, I'm not absolutely sure, but I think it's because there's probably some trash masking the good target, or it's so deep the detector only picks it up now and then. Although this unit goes very deep, there's always a limit somewhere, but try coming into the target at different angles, slowly and methodically. One thing I'm starting to do is dig everything for a while and see how the targets relate to the audio and visual info. One other suggestion is, I'd go to some of the first posts on this forum for the Quatro. They seem to have a lot more technical, and practical stuff, or might I say, more of the kind of basic stuff, because everyone was pretty new with it at that time. I'm not saying that there isn't plenty of stuff throughout the whole deal here, but I think you'd find it interesting and informative. I sure did, and I've had my detector for a couple of years now. I'm also excited about the fact that your in Brumuda. That sounds like a pretty interesting place to detect, especially around the tourist areas, and rich hotel areas, where people could be losing some jewelry and stuff. Keep in touch!Marc.
