New coil for Sovereign Elite

LaRe

Hi, I'm new to this board and I don't really know alot about metal detecting, but... my husband loves it... I would like to do something nice for his birthday and maybe get him a new coil. I have his Kellyco magazine in front of me and I see two coils I'm interested in. Their both Excelerator searchoils, one is the 14" coil and one is the 16.5" coil. I was just curious if anyone could let me know which coil would be better. He mostly hunts old house foundations for relics and old coins. I would like to get something for him that has a little more depth and can cover more ground, but I'm really at a loss in regards to which of these coils to choose from. Can anyone help???

If Kelly co offers their 10 x14 Excellerator coil for the Sov. like they do for the Explorers, then that would be your absolute best choice, as it will get much more depth then his 10 inch coil and actually also get better separation in his type of sites that have lots of trash too; (call Kelly Co and ask if it's available for the Sov., even though they don't list it in their paper or web site, that doesn't mean it is not available). The coils larger than 12 inches, aren't going to be of any great benefit in those types of sites. He is not going to get more depth from a large coil in areas that have allot of other trash targets. If the 10 x 14 isn't available for the Sov., then a 12 inch Sun Ray (Intruder S 12) would be your best bet (click on Sun Ray at the top of the page), next, I would go to a smaller Excellerator coil, the 4.5 x 7 is really nice (again, don't know if they make it for the Sov.) and the Sun Ray 5" is the finest, smallest coil I own; and they do make it for the Sov. Hope this helps.
